UWK 1 - 4 Pharaohs (365734622)

Fairly good weather for football had drawn a crowd of 43483 to U.W.K.. Fabrice Syz was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Luigi Giovannetti and Sacco van Driezum. The derby had been the talk of Cairo all week and fans of both teams could be seen throughout the stadium. UWK had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation. The following players took the field: El-Faisal - El-Ommar, Yaseen, Uyaynah - Nasser, Tuama, El-Omar, Chana, Basri - Ibn-Omar, Abdalla.

Pharaohs decided to use a 3-5-2 set up. They fielded: Cenamor - Abed-Ibraheem, Paxleben, Gobrecht - Malgorn, Hassan, Rahman, Al-Ommar, Bruno - Alemany, Dzidek.

Pharaohs tried to focus their attacks down the middle. Central attacks were the recipe of the day for Pharaohs, as they moved the ball from the wings to the middle with startling regularity. A mistake by the home side's central defence after 8 minutes allowed L. Gobrecht to score for Pharaohs. The scoreboard now read 0 - 1. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave O. Paxleben from Pharaohs a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 21 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! UWK were forced into a substitution as F. Ibn-Omar couldn't continue due to some rough treatment, forcing H. El-Amal to come in off the bench. UWK's H. El-Amal got himself booked for a foul. Unfortunately for Pharaohs, T. Malgorn was injured when the game became more physical, and he had to leave the field. H. Harrani replaced him. A defender managed to keep the ball from crossing the goal-line after a curling shot coming in from the right from R. Hassan after 35 minutes, and prevented Pharaohs from going up another goal. With the clock showing 36 minutes played, a great pass from the defensive line of UWK resulted in a counterattack that was smoothly brought under control by A. Chana in the centre of the opposition's penalty area, but his finish went high. After 40 minutes, Pharaohs's P. Alemany burst through the central defence and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 0 - 2. UWK's M. El-Ommar was shown a yellow card after 41 minutes for slicing down an opponent. A late sliding challenge from O. Paxleben was deemed to be his second yellow card offence by the referee, resulting in him being sent off, and Pharaohs left a man down. The Pharaohs captaincy was handed to L. Gobrecht. It was 0 - 2 at the break. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by UWK, with 58 percent of the ball.

After 59 minutes, Pharaohs were awarded a free kick. Rather than shooting straight at goal, the taker went for an indirect variant which seemed to take his team mates a bit by surprise. C. Bruno did attempt a finish, but from an awkward position, sending the ball into the away fans. Pharaohs were determined to attack in the middle, even their wing attacks ended up centrally. After 76 minutes, an incisive pass through the middle gave P. Alemany a chance to increase the lead for Pharaohs, and he did not disappoint. The score was then 0 - 3. 77 minutes into the match, UWK's N. Nasser collected a ball sent down the right and put it in the back of the net, narrowing the score to 1 - 3. An accurate cross from C. Bruno of Pharaohs was met with a wonderful glancing header from J. Dzidek, hitting the inside base of the post before nestling into the back of the net for 1 - 4. After this, you could see that the players of Pharaohs were more interested in killing time than scoring more goals. UWK enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 57 percent of possession.

UWK's top performer was clearly A. Chana. M. Abdalla on the other hand, had a terrible day. The most dominating Pharaohs player was without a doubt P. Alemany. K. Abed-Ibraheem was a disappointment, however. The match ends 1 - 4.
