(365990804)

21-04-2012 12.00
The weather was pretty good, and a crowd of 37264 had shown up at
Arena dei Gonzaga for the match.
André Valenti-Schoon was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Mario Gimeno Soriano and
Diego Héctor Navarro.
Virgilio started off with a 4-4-2 lineup.
The following players took the field: Naamani - Huopainen, Terhonen, Stricatu, Furlong - Stanciu, Guereta, Anderssen, Debelić - Simeoni, Kurttekin.
A 2-5-3 alignment was the formation of choice for Poggibonsese.
They fielded: Spicci - Buitendijk, Albrighi - Macagni, Filip, Barla, Kluck Fernandez, Montt - Desgurb, Fava, Debrincat.
Some great play up the middle by Virgilio led to a chance for
V. Kurttekin to score after 3 minutes, but the shot hit the crossbar.
A. Debelić of Virgilio received a yellow card after 5 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour.
Virgilio took the lead 19 minutes into the game by 1 - 0, as
V. Kurttekin elegantly received a long range pass through the middle, finishing off with a half-volley shot just below the bar.
Coming from the right,
M. Stanciu almost managed to score another goal for Virgilio, but his header was tipped over the bar by the visitors' keeper.
The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
C. Desgurb from Poggibonsese a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 30 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient!
32 minutes into the match,
A. Terhonen could have extended the lead, but his powerful free kick went just over the bar.
1 - 0 was the halftime score.
Virgilio claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 66 percent.
The score became 2 - 0 at 60 minutes into the game, when Virgilio were given a penalty which
A. Terhonen blasted straight down the middle giving the keeper no chance!
After 77 minutes,
B. Debrincat sent the corner kick right to
P. Montt who headed it sharply past the keeper. 2 - 1!
With 79 minutes played, Virgilio put themselves up 3 - 1 when the visiting defenders lost the ball to
A. Debelić, who came up from the left and proceeded to coolly round the keeper and knock the ball home.
Virgilio's
M. Stanciu increased the lead to 4 - 1, after he saw his shot go between the legs of the advancing goalkeeper following some good play down the right wing after 82 minutes.
After this, you could see that the players of Virgilio were more interested in killing time than scoring more goals.
The coach of Virgilio was happy with the game so far, but still wanted to change the line up. After 88 minutes,
W. Flinkblad came on for
A. Terhonen.
Content with how the game was proceeding, the Virgilio coach let
M. Duszka replace
W. Flinkblad after 89 minutes.
Possession in this half belonged to Virgilio, who controlled the ball 66 percent of the time.
Virgilio's top performer was clearly
V. Kurttekin.
M. Duszka turned in a dismal performance, however.
The most dominating Poggibonsese player was without a doubt
C. Desgurb.
P. Montt was a disappointment, however.
The match ends 4 - 1.
