07-04-2012 12.00
Fairly good weather for football had drawn a crowd of 49278 to
Sereno solatio splendente avvenire socialista.
Heriberto Horna was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Sven Falkensjö and
Øyvind Eriksen.
A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Vassili.
They fielded: Senzanonna - Provenzano, Vorwerk, Gozzi - Criscuolo, Sambin, Cominelli, Aschettino, Griffa - Rosi, Dräxler.
Percoke started off with a 5-4-1 lineup.
The following players took the field: Eler - Roncari, Maraviglia, Rezzonico, Racioppi, Evangelisti - Perona, Favilla, Coassin, Damiani - Federico.
Percoke used their skill at pressing to cut off the attack angles of their opponents all over the field.
P. Perona made a nice dash down the wing after 10 minutes, but was unable to get the cross into the box. A goal kick was awarded.
With 11 minutes played, the home side managed to get a 1 - 0 lead as
L. Dräxler flipped the ball in after a cross from the right.
Vassili's
G. Rosi finished emphatically to make the score 2 -0 after 17 minutes, after the enigmatic
G. Aschettino pulled a delightful long pass from his box of tricks to bypass the defence.
A free kick just outside of the visitors' penalty area after 24 minutes could have resulted in another goal, but
U. Eler got a hand out and tipped the ball over the bar.
Percoke's ability to press all over the field frequently paid dividends.
Vassili's
G. Rosi saw his fine effort strike the top of the bar following some good work up the middle by his teammates after 36 minutes.
The teams went for the halftime break at 2 - 0.
Vassili claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 64 percent.
Percoke pressed their opponents, causing the game to be a bit of a stalemate at times.
Vassili managed to extend their lead to 3 - 0 when
G. Vorwerk cut in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper.
The pressing tactics used by Percoke were successful as the ball remained close to the half way line at all times.
With 70 minutes played, the Percoke coach decided a substitution may help turn the game around.
M. Cavalchi came on,
E. Maraviglia had to leave the fray.
Vassili increased the lead as
P. Sambin struck to make the score 4 - 0 after an attack from the left left him unmarked in front of the keeper.
At this point, it was obvious that the players of Vassili lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented.
G. Rosi had a fantastic opportunity to put Vassili up another goal 81 minutes into the match, but he fired just over the crossbar.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Vassili, with 66 percent of the ball.
G. Rosi performed admirably for Vassili.
A. Gozzi turned in a dismal performance, however.
The most dominating Percoke player was without a doubt
C. Federico.
However,
V. Roncari made a disastrous appearance.
The match ends 4 - 0.
