Dark skies made the crowd of 35700 at Manzacanà a little nervous, but the rain held off. Zygmunt Ciechowicz was the appointed referee with assistance provided by John Bråthen and Oğulcan Kervan. Gentlemen prefer blondes and Manzo prefers a 3-5-2. Let's see how this plays out for them. The following players took the field: Górny - Borkowicz, Edme, Chiarella - Müller, Mocella, Galiussi, Giuliano, Rams - Nasuti, Pinheiro.

After thorough analysis and consultation of astrological charts, Stradella decided to go with a 3-5-2 formation. They fielded: Kérékou - Recio, Dessì, Dinarelli - Corsi, Baltico, Arbesser, Baccolini, Zambonelli - Nieman, Beeler.

Like the adage "bend but don't break", Manzo will rely on their outstanding ability to counter-attack today. 0 - 1 was the score after 4 minutes, when Stradella's F. Corsi cut through the central defense and pounded one in. Stradella came close to extending their lead as X. Recio delivered a low effort on goal from the right but the angle was too sharp, and the shot was destined for the side netting. Maybe it was because of his team's lead, or maybe it was due to the ease with which he broke down the left, but G. Dessì was a bit too sure of his talents, so instead of taking the easy tap-in goal after 6 minutes, he went for the backheel, which he put woefully wide. Stradella's P. Zambonelli sent an early cross that saw the defenders caught out of position and the alert H. Nieman was able to pounce and roll the ball past the hapless netminder to make the score 0 - 2. Stradella's H. Nieman was shown a yellow card after 15 minutes for slicing down an opponent. 20 minutes into the game, V. Müller had to leave the field due to a knee injury. In came C. Vigolo. H. Nieman was, after 25 minutes, almost able to extend the visitors' lead with a well placed diving header after the ball had looped into the center, but the home side's keeper M. Górny made the save. Manzo almost scored after a swift counter-attack 26 minutes into the game, but A. Mocella put the shot from the left flank just outside the frame. Big paper red cards were being held up by the opposing supporters with 27 minutes on the clock after F. Galiussi's mistimed tackle from behind. The referee only showed the Manzo player a yellow card though. Stradella were forced into a substitution as M. Kérékou couldn't continue playing due to some rough treatment, so A. Rossi had to come in from the bench. It was 0 - 2 at the break. Stradella set the tempo, maintaining 63 percent of possession.

Stradella's W. Beeler made it through the home team's defense on the right hand side 49 minutes into the match. After rounding the keeper, he only had to place the ball in the unguarded net when a defender slid in and cleared the ball off the line. W. Beeler raced down the wing after 58 minutes and managed to get through the defense, but he lost his footing and sent the cross out for a throw-in. Manzo had a brilliant opportunity to reply as V. Giuliano received a high ball from the right and hit it on the bounce. A. Rossi's reflexes induced groans from the home crowd, though. The Stradella players could smell victory in the air. W. Beeler wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for E. Etchegaray after 70 minutes. The situation leading to Manzo's penalty 84 minutes into the match was definitely water cooler conversation tomorrow, but the competent L. Chiarella didn't hesitate to score, making it 1 - 2. The forty-five minutes were dominated by Stradella, with an impressive 62 percent possession of the ball.

Manzo's best player was L. Pinheiro. Even six year old fans were wincing at the poor play by C. Vigolo today. H. Nieman performed admirably for Stradella. I can't remember A. Rossi ever having a worse night than he just had. The match ends 1 - 2.
