Stella 1 - 5 Tacuba

The 25000 fans in attendance at Arena del Sud were roasting in the hot sun. The head coach flashed hand signals from the sideline and Stella formed up in a 2-5-3 combination. Let's hope the opposing sideline wasn't filming that. Starters: Nizami - Agiato, Kristiansen - Sibera, Valerio, Di Iorio, Constantin, Tillstål - Łapicz, Lampa, Buergi.

After thorough analysis and consultation of astrological charts, Tacuba decided to go with a 3-4-3 formation. The following players took the field: Ciuffi - Cantarini, Cafagna, Matera - Belli, Belli, Di Pasquale, La Ratta - Piripilli, Tiso, Cioffi.

B. Cafagna of Tacuba received a yellow card after 9 minutes for unsportsmanlike behavior. It was a hot and sunny day, and several players seemed worn out. Maybe this was why P. Tiso found an unusual amount of space for his snappy footwork. The visiting P. Tiso was booed thoroughly by the home crowd 23 minutes into the game, after he broke through the middle and scored, resulting in the visitors taking the lead. 0 - 1 was the score. After 40 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for E. Di Pasquale who increased Tacuba's lead to 0 - 2. Tacuba's S. Belli received a ball slotted perfectly through the home side's central defense after 43 minutes, and chipped it past the helpless keeper to increase the lead to 0 - 3. The away fans won't regret traveling for this one! By now, the players of Tacuba felt that victory was a sure thing and began to play it safe, focusing on defense and not risking too much going forward. After more pushing and shoving than a pack of helicopter moms trying to get the last appointment for their snowflakes to see the Easter Bunny, Stella's B. Tillstål finally got himself booked for a foul. Parents shielded their children's eyes as Tacuba's E. Di Pasquale left the field on a stretcher from a studs-first challenge. Oh good night - his thigh is ripped open! It looks like a pack of zombies got a hold of him! G. Iannotta took his place on the pitch. Halftime score was 0 - 3. The Count appeared on the jumbotron and announced that Stella had 55...55 percent possession. AH AH AH!

At 60 minutes into the game, Stella's C. Valerio cooly knocked the ball home after an impressive run down the left, reducing the visitors' lead to 1 - 3. After 75 minutes, Stella used a short break in the game to take new instructions from their coach. P. Tiso somehow managed to break free of his man on the left wing and only needed a relatively easy finish to bring Tacuba's lead up to 1 - 4. The referee showed Stella's G. Di Iorio the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. There was concern in the stands when, at the 77 minute mark, Tacuba's V. Cioffi hit the ground hard, but with the help of the trainer's magic spray, he rejoined his teammates on the field. V. Cioffi didn't pace himself at all, and after a series of daring offensive runs he was too tired to help out in the defensive play. With 83 minutes played, Tacuba put themselves up 1 - 5 after an attack from the right, caused by a defensive blunder. The scorer was V. Cioffi. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Stella would have 52 percent possession in this half was spot on!

T. Buergi performed admirably for Stella. Speaking of stinking up the place, A. Agiato sure smelled like the bottom of Batman's shoe after a night of crimefighting in Gotham. Tacuba's top performer was clearly P. Tiso. Even six year old fans were wincing at the poor play by G. Iannotta today. The match ends 1 - 5.
