The weather was pretty good, and a crowd of 12000 had shown up at
Nou Camp di Reggio Calabria for the match.
Michael Riener was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Pieter Hofstee and
Sergiy Novikov.
Everyone was excited about the upcoming
Lombardia derby and the crowd was divided evenly.
Calabria had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation.
The following players took the field: Silei - Benedetti, Angelisanti, Spinola, Noferi - Fiume, Festorazzi, Bettonte, Spanò - Zanenga, Recupero.
Figino decided to use a 4-5-1 set up.
Starters: Seljeseth - Girard, Portillo, Garaz, Scarzanella - Birkelund, Fort, Dammtor, Muzaku, Aiello - Wilmar.
The wings were the focus of most of Figino's attacks today.
Figino were determined to attack on the wing and their central attempts were constantly abandoned in favour of the wings.
After 19 minutes, Figino put themselves up 0 - 1, as
F. Aiello finished off a strike from the left with a real cannonball of a shot.
29 minutes into the game, Calabria had difficulty finding their positions and their organisation dropped to
inadequate.
It was obvious that Figino had instructions to attack on the wings instead of in the middle.
With 33 minutes played, Figino put themselves up 0 - 2 after an attack from the right, caused by a defensive blunder. The scorer was
D. Fort.
Confident in their lead, Figino's players relaxed and focused more on defending the lead than increasing it.
With the scoreboard showing that 37 minutes had been played, Figino nearly put themselves up another goal after
I. Garaz came through on the left. Fortunately for the home crowd, the keeper made the save.
The visitors'
M. Wilmar took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 38 minutes into the match. 0 - 3 for Figino.
After 42 minutes, Figino's
M. Scarzanella burst through the central defence and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 0 - 4.
0 - 4 was the halftime score.
Possession in this half belonged to Figino, who controlled the ball 84 percent of the time.
Despite his frustration resulting in the smashing of a few teacups, the coach of Calabria was able to get his message across, and raised Calabria's organisation to
solid.
A. Birkelund increased the visitors' lead by putting a volley away after a pass from the right. 0 - 5.
After 67 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for
M. Portillo who increased Figino's lead to 0 - 6.
80 minutes into the game, Calabria seemed to suffer a certain amount of confusion and they fell to a
inadequate level of organisation.
Some fine movement on the left led to a Figino goal after 81 minutes, making it 0 - 7.
E. Dammtor was noted down as the scorer.
The home crowd was not impressed when
A. Birkelund came in from the right, shooting hard to score after 86 minutes. Figino were now up 0 - 8.
The corner kick from
M. Wilmar was powerfully met by the head of
M. Scarzanella to make the score 0 - 9.
After 87 minutes, an incisive pass through the middle gave
F. Aiello a chance to increase the lead for Figino, and he did not disappoint. The score was then 0 - 10.
Figino had most of the ball, with 88 percent of possession.
Most important Calabria player was
I. Fiume.
However,
A. Silei made a disastrous appearance.
Figino's best player was
M. Wilmar.
E. Seljeseth turned in a dismal performance, however.
The match ends 0 - 10.
