24-03-2012 12.55
The 17644 spectators at
Arena Mazza were in for an afternoon of sunshine.
Casper Graham was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Habib Tekeş and
Matt Phan.
fe1907 decided to use a 3-5-2 set up.
The following players took the field: Liénard - Guerra, Comina, Widerhult - Farro, Vizioli, Gorojod, Janot, Nordhagen - Poštić, Gold.
uts.trieste tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination.
Starters: Schleinig - Di Salvo, Naiqama, Arma - Scherwey, Serafin, Pagniello, Serbelloni, Barbagallo - Magalhães, Fouto.
fe1907 clearly had decided to counter-attack when they could.
uts.trieste tried to focus their attacks down the middle.
E. Farro's early cross saw the defenders caught out of position and the alert
S. Gold was able to pounce and roll the ball past the hapless goalkeeper to score for fe1907. 1 - 0.
fe1907 put themselves up 2 - 0 when
S. Gold broke through on the right, leaving the entire defence trailing in his wake.
Confident in their lead, fe1907's players relaxed and focused more on defending the lead than increasing it.
G. Vizioli should probably have put his team up another goal after 43 minutes, but some great goalkeeping by
S. Schleinig kept the visitors in the game.
J. Liénard made a brilliant save 43 minutes into the match, blocking a rocket of a shot from
G. Di Salvo on the right hand side.
It was 2 - 0 at the break.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by fe1907, with 62 percent of the ball.
With 50 minutes played, the uts.trieste coach decided a substitution may help turn the game around.
G. Chirizzi came on,
P. Pagniello had to leave the fray.
It was a hot and sunny day, and several players seemed worn out. Maybe this was why
L. Guerra found an unusual amount of space for his snappy footwork.
84 minutes into the game, uts.trieste seemed to suffer a certain amount of confusion and they fell to a
passable level of organisation.
After 85 minutes, there was a bit of a mixup on the field as uts.trieste found themselves out of position and their organisation level dropped to
inadequate.
The sunny day didn't make things easy for
G. Janot who didn't seem his usual powerful self on the pitch.
fe1907 had to make a substitution after 88 minutes.
G. Gorojod limped off the field and was replaced by
A. Maravigna.
89 minutes into the game, uts.trieste had difficulty finding their positions and their organisation dropped to
inadequate.
After 89 minutes, a couple of quick and successful challenges followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area by
M. Poštić might have resulted in another goal for fe1907. However,
S. Schleinig made a spectacular save.
fe1907 enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 69 percent of possession.
fe1907's top performer was clearly
S. Gold.
On the other hand,
A. Maravigna's play was disheartening.
The most dominating uts.trieste player was without a doubt
F. Serafin.
However,
G. Chirizzi made a disastrous appearance.
The match ends 2 - 0.
