Clear skies welcomed the 12000 spectators who had made their way to Skonto Arena. Gatis Lidmanis was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Diego Corsi and Daniel Macedo. People from all over Rīga had joined up for the derby. Skonto had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation. Lineup: Timokhin - Pilipszyk, Shtanov, Zilmiņš, Zvīņa - Vešters, Ortyakov, Groziņš, Baradinskas - Banka, Derbiņš.

"Drillētājs" started off with a 3-4-3 lineup. The following players had been chosen: Martínez Marín - Vilciņš, Mondolin, Kluck - Aizstrauts, Hasperhoven, Sobenin, Ernštreits - Putāns, Zvaigzne, Karadağ.

G. Vešters was doing a great job on his wing, sending in brilliant passes to his teammates in the middle, but D. Baradinskas seemed unable to profit from this excellent service. After 13 minutes, the defensive line of Skonto created a counterattack through the middle that gave N. Zilmiņš a good look at the goal, but his shot glanced harmlessly off the crossbar. "Drillētājs" made it 0 - 1 as K. Hasperhoven got a touch to the floated corner kick and flicked the ball to V. Mondolin who whipped a low drive in off the far post. After 23 minutes, a mistake by the home side's left defence allowed D. Aizstrauts to get through. He outclassed the home side's keeper, adding another goal for the visitors. 0 - 2. At this point, it was obvious that the players of "Drillētājs" lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented. A drive down the left side allowed P. Zvaigzne to get in close and score another goal for "Drillētājs" after 31 minutes, taking the score to 0 - 3. After 35 minutes, "Drillētājs"'s A. Vilciņš burst through the central defence and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 0 - 4. E. Putāns increased the visitors' lead by putting a volley away after a pass from the right. 0 - 5. 0 - 5 was the halftime score. "Drillētājs" had most of the ball, with 70 percent of possession.

With 54 minutes played, "Drillētājs" put themselves up 0 - 6 after an attack from the right, caused by a defensive blunder. The scorer was K. Hasperhoven. O. Timokhin got a fingertip on A. Vilciņš's shot from the left 61 minutes in, and managed to keep the visitors from going up another goal. "Drillētājs"'s D. Aizstrauts proved that he's been around on a football pitch before, when he took advantage of a few moments of confusion in the opposition's defensive line and elegantly scored for 0 - 7. D. Aizstrauts received a delicate pass through the home side's central defence after 71 minutes, and chipped it past the flailing keeper to score making it 0 - 8. The "Drillētājs" fans went wild, whilst the home fans started to think about leaving early. That was his third goal of the match - a hat trick for D. Aizstrauts. "Drillētājs" came close to extending their lead as D. Aizstrauts delivered a low effort on goal from the right after 76 minutes, but the angle was too narrow and the shot went harmlessly into the side netting. The visitors' D. Aizstrauts took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 80 minutes into the match. 0 - 9 for "Drillētājs". "Drillētājs" claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 75 percent.

Skonto's top performer was clearly G. Vešters. However, O. Timokhin made a disastrous appearance. "Drillētājs"'s best player was E. Karadağ. Y. Sobenin on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 0 - 9.
