The 12000 spectators at
Giacinto Facchetti Arena were in for an afternoon of sunshine.
Kalle Egede was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Henryk Włodarski and
Johnny Denessen.
Stars started off with a 3-4-3 lineup.
The following players took the field: Ødegård - Mândroiu, Nievas, Hryniewicz - Consheim, Caballero, Cosyns, Smabers - Collaro, Arnaldes, Pellino.
InterNapolis.s.c. had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation.
Starters: Serôdio - Salmela, Arcontizzi, Martimo - Rodrigues, Chaves, van Ostade, Elói, Annunziata - Marincola, Vecchia.
Stars seemed to prefer attacking in the middle.
After 8 minutes, InterNapolis.s.c.'s
M. Salmela fell awkwardly, but was determined to stay in the match. That's the spirit!
D. Smabers was very close to giving Stars the lead with an ingenious free kick routine 16 minutes into the match, but the ball just grazed the bar.
InterNapolis.s.c. made it 0 - 1 as
L. Vecchia got a touch to the floated corner kick and flicked the ball to
J. van Ostade who whipped a low drive in off the far post.
The visitors'
L. Vecchia took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 20 minutes into the match. 0 - 2 for InterNapolis.s.c..
It was a hot and sunny day, and several players seemed worn out. Maybe this was why
D. Annunziata found an unusual amount of space for his snappy footwork.
A. Collaro did everything he could to get one back for his Stars, but keeper
G. Serôdio denied him with a spectacular block.
Halftime score was 0 - 2.
Stars claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 60 percent.
The Stars coach was desperate to reverse his team's fortunes in the game, and ordered his team to change strategy.
The Stars players listened closely to their manager, as he gave new tactical instructions for the team.
Had it not been for one of the home defenders,
C. Marincola would have put InterNapolis.s.c. up another goal 60 minutes into the match with his audacious lob from the right wing.
P. Martimo didn't pace himself at all, and after a series of daring offensive runs he was too tired to help out in the defensive play.
The home team's supporters got excited again when
A. Arnaldes broke through the visitors' central defence and caught their keeper off guard, making it 1 - 2.
Stars enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 72 percent of possession.
A. Collaro performed admirably for Stars.
On the other hand,
B. Ødegård's play was disheartening.
The most dominating InterNapolis.s.c. player was without a doubt
M. Elói.
L. Arcontizzi was a disappointment, however.
The match ends 1 - 2.
