Clear skies welcomed the 18237 spectators who had made their way to Melnais kaķis Arena. Anders Mårtensson was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Raimonds Endzels and Bartoloměj Kolman. The derby had been the talk of Liepāja all week and fans of both teams could be seen throughout the stadium. Melnais decided to use a 4-4-2 set up. The following players took the field: Makalovich - Grīnbergs, Kalniņš, Rozenbergs, Vilkauss - Šāvējs, Sveilis, Veinbergs, Andersons - Mayster, Freidis.

WINSTROL had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation. Lineup: Jaunzems - Tomelis, Steiselis, Matusevich, Kononiuk - Plyuskov, Moldovanov, Jansons, Baltkalns - Burķīts, Strauja.

After 5 minutes, WINSTROL put themselves up 0 - 1, as A. Burķīts finished off a strike from the left with a real cannonball of a shot. K. Baltkalns received a delicate pass through the home side's central defence after 6 minutes, and chipped it past the flailing keeper to score making it 0 - 2. The WINSTROL fans went wild, whilst the home fans started to think about leaving early. 22 minutes in, WINSTROL's G. Matusevich received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. After 28 minutes, an incisive pass through the middle gave A. Plyuskov a chance to increase the lead for WINSTROL, and he did not disappoint. The score was then 0 - 3. The players of WINSTROL now seemed to think the job was done and acted more defensively, just waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave A. Plyuskov from WINSTROL a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 29 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! 30 minutes into the match, the visitors put themselves ahead 0 - 4 as A. Burķīts finished off an attack from the left with a spectacular scissors kick. 0 - 4 was the score after the first half. Possession in this half belonged to WINSTROL, who controlled the ball 59 percent of the time.

WINSTROL's J. Jansons skillfully knocked a pass over the top after 55 minutes, and that was received by A. Burķīts who just managed to slot it past the opposing goalkeeper for 0 - 5. By then A. Burķīts had scored three goals - a hat trick! After 73 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for A. Burķīts who increased WINSTROL's lead to 0 - 6. A corner kick created great disorder in the penalty area with a goal nearly scored by S. Freidis. At last, Melnais's O. Kalniņš was able to backheel the ball in. 1 - 6. WINSTROL's K. Baltkalns was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 84 minutes. N. Tomelis of WINSTROL took advantage of a mistake on the home side's right after 85 minutes which increased the away team's lead to 1 - 7. WINSTROL claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 64 percent.

S. Freidis performed admirably for Melnais. A. Veinbergs turned in a dismal performance, however. WINSTROL's top performer was clearly A. Burķīts. R. Jaunzems on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 1 - 7.
