Clouds darkened the skies at inazuma 2002 Arena as 4166 spectators turned up for the match. Jules Hutsebaut was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Romuald Pankowski and Victor Spur. The head coach flashed hand signals from the sideline and inazuma formed up in a 4-4-2 combination. Let's hope the opposing sideline wasn't filming that. Starters: Lipparini - Majer, Rumiati, Scalese, Fruet - Mazzarotto, Mezzatesta, Giberti, Menardo - Coppola, Meletti.

Our studio analysts were correct. Anconitana has taken the field in a 4-4-2 alignment. Lineup: Prigol - Soffritti, Fanfara, Coltro, Lamoratta - Pantile, Spreafico, Modenato, Razzini - Aloi, Sammarco.

4 minutes into the game, A. Aloi was a hair's width away from giving Anconitana the lead with a shot from the left. A timely dive by M. Lipparini saved the home team on this occasion. 9 minutes into the match Anconitana's S. Razzini was being cautioned by the referee when he blurted out "I PITY THE FOOL THAT CAUTIONS ME!" The humor was lost on the officials, and his comedic efforts only earned him a straight red card and a trip to the showers. G. Bertocco did some final stretches before entering the game as inazuma's trainer helped C. Majer off the field after an injury. inazuma took the lead 18 minutes in, as Y. Giberti broke through on the left and put his shot just beyond the reach of the outstretched keeper, bringing the score to 1 - 0. The visitors wouldn't quit and after 21 minutes, R. Sammarco evened things up as he finished off a perfect pass from the right. 1 - 1. D. Pantile of Anconitana received a yellow card after 22 minutes for unsportsmanlike behavior. inazuma broke through on the left after 25 minutes, with F. Fruet firing at an impossible angle to give the home side a 2 - 1 lead. inazuma had to make a substitution after 26 minutes. D. Rumiati apparently was hit by a thrown bottle of Schlitz by one of the opposing players' fans, and now reeks of blood and bad beer. While the coach remonstrated with the side official about the situation, E. Cappellazzo finished his warmups and came on. inazuma's M. Scalese struck his penalty well enough to beat the goalkeeper and extend the home team's lead to 3 - 1 after 27 minutes. 3 - 1 was the halftime score. inazuma set the tempo, maintaining 51 percent of possession.

The visitors got a chance to pulling one back after 47 minutes, due to a defensive blunder leaving S. Spreafico completely unmarked. His strike was pathetic though, rolling slowly to the home side's keeper. M. Lipparini made a brilliant save 75 minutes into the match, blocking a rocket of a shot from E. Coltro on the right hand side. The away team improved the scoreline to 3 - 2, as D. Pantile was able to strike home thanks to a good play on the left 76 minutes into the match. inazuma's F. Fruet was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 77 minutes. Coming through the middle D. Pantile almost scored the equalizer for Anconitana after 81 minutes, but M. Lipparini made an excellent save, tipping the awkward swerving shot past the post. Y. Giberti increased inazuma's lead to 4 - 2, connecting with a hooked ball from the right. The away fans are claiming handball, to no avail. After this, you could see that inazuma's players were mostly interested in killing time and holding on to their lead. The forty-five minutes were dominated by inazuma, with an impressive 52 percent possession of the ball.

inazuma's top performer was clearly M. Mazzarotto. I can't remember M. Scalese ever having a worse night than he just had. Anconitana's best player was D. Pantile. Good thing L. Prigol isn't a horse, because he'd surely be sent to the glue factory after that performance. The match ends 4 - 2.
