12000 punters turned up at Jimy Arena, and despite threatening clouds on the horizon, no rain came. Bartłomiej Gawęda was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Zvonko Savanović and Spiridon Catinca. The derby had been the talk of Varna all week and fans of both teams could be seen throughout the stadium. Jimy`s decided to use a 4-4-2 set up. Counter-attacking seemed to be the preferred strategy of Jimy`s. Varna's O. van der Dop was shown a yellow card after 10 minutes for slicing down an opponent. Given a free kick close to the byline, Jimy`s tried a move that loyal fans may recognise from training. A pass to the side pulled the defence out of position which let D. Ayaz slip through on goal. He didn't have to break his stride, and slipped the ball past the keeper to make it 1 - 0, 32 minutes into the game. F. Azimet tied the game at 1 - 1 after 33 minutes, when he converted an incredible pass from the right. The visitors could have taken the lead from a free kick after 37 minutes, if it wasn't for the jaw-dropping save by D. Yanev. The teams went for the halftime break at 1 - 1. Neither team were able to dominate possession this half.

Varna's F. Azenha could have put the guests one up after 75 minutes after chasing a through ball from the right, but D. Yanev was as fast as a snake, grabbing the ball from under his nose. Some things can only be learned through experience, and F. Azimet should take his lesson to heart after nearly gifting Jimy`s a goal with 79 minutes of the match played. After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, B. Bulevičius got himself booked. The manager of Varna was not happy. Varna's F. Azenha finished emphatically to make the score 1 -2 after 81 minutes, after the enigmatic G. Haugerud pulled a delightful long pass from his box of tricks to bypass the defence. An accurate cross from D. Vladimirov of Varna was met with a wonderful glancing header from O. van der Dop, hitting the inside base of the post before nestling into the back of the net for 1 - 3. K. Spasov almost reduced the deficit, having drawn the entire left side defence away, but the shot went straight into the arms of the goalkeeper. Jimy`s claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 52 percent.

The most dominating Jimy`s player was without a doubt E. Pumpalov. T. Panayotov on the other hand, had a terrible day. Varna's top performer was clearly S. Bech Jensen. O. van der Dop was a disappointment, however. The match ends 1 - 3.
