68090 spectators had come to
Mount Doom Stadium this cloudy day.
Jaap Cox was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Oscar Maillet and
Thije Bijker.
rivendell had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation.
The following players took the field: Espadañero - Maniez, Cabarrús, Silvino - Cuartas, Valencina, Wilstra, Fuster, Capritti - Fregni, Matinlassi.
Atletico tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination.
The following players had been chosen: Khoo - Kecht, Gunnarsson, Simčić - Baak, Jensen, Hautschek, Ciorescu, Wammes - Barberà, Reguera.
Atletico immediately set off using their skill at pressing their opponents.
Slack defending gave rivendell a chance to take the lead with 9 minutes played, but
G. Valencina's cross from the left flank was fumbled in front of the goal and easily dealt with by the opposition.
The rivendell free kick 12 minutes into the match seemed wasted, as the shot was both short and off target. But was this actually a plan? The ball landed at the feet of
M. Cabarrús, who was completely unmarked in the box. That's 1 - 0!
After several obvious shirt pulling incidents,
F. Reguera got himself booked. The manager of Atletico was not happy.
rivendell solidified their lead at the 19 minute mark, as
Q. Fuster dribbled the ball through the opposing central defence and scored to make it 2 - 0.
Almost all the way down to the corner flag, rivendell's
F. Cuartas somehow managed to get a perfect pass into the middle, impossible to miss for
K. Matinlassi, who struck for 3 - 0.
Confident in their lead, rivendell's players relaxed and focused more on defending the lead than increasing it.
M. Fregni could have put rivendell up one more, but he fired into the side netting after breaking free on the left after 26 minutes.
rivendell's
K. Matinlassi got himself booked for a foul.
Things were deteriorating for the away team as rivendell scored another to make it 4 - 0 after a left side attack resulted in a goal for
M. Fregni after 28 minutes.
Atletico pressed their opponents, causing the game to be a bit of a stalemate at times.
The referee showed rivendell's
A. Silvino the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge.
The player down was
L. Simčić. The Atletico bench looked worried for a while, but in the end he managed to get up.
The teams went for the halftime break at 4 - 0.
rivendell enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 60 percent of possession.
The coach of rivendell was happy with the game so far, but still wanted to change the line up. After 46 minutes,
V. Salmen came on for
M. Fregni.
The bench was restless, and with 50 minutes passed Atletico's coach gave
A. Morro the opportunity the player had been hoping for.
H. Kecht reluctantly left the field.
rivendell's
K. Matinlassi saw his fine effort strike the top of the bar following some good work up the middle by his teammates after 54 minutes.
After 56 minutes, rivendell were awarded a free kick. Rather than shooting straight at goal, the taker went for an indirect variant which seemed to take his team mates a bit by surprise.
F. Cuartas did attempt a finish, but from an awkward position, sending the ball into the away fans.
Having just won a lot of ground following a quick turn of play, Atletico were given a free kick at a sharp angle. Rather than going for the direct shot, the defence was bypassed by a few sideways passes, giving
A. Morro the chance to slip through at goal. Nice teamwork! And 4 - 1, 57 minutes into the game.
After 67 minutes rivendell's
A. Espadañero limped slightly after a late challenge, but he was able to continue.
The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
V. Hautschek from Atletico a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 72 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient!
K. Matinlassi wanted to play on, but the rivendell coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 89 minutes into the game by
V. Păduraru.
K. Maniez left the field with a smile on his face as he was substituted 89 minutes into the game, as his team was in the lead.
J. Lejeune was the replacement.
Although the whole team were struggling to impress, Atletico's
L. Wammes was singled out as being the problem as he was called off the pitch after 89 minutes.
R. Rechenberg was given a chance to change things around.
Possession in this half belonged to rivendell, who controlled the ball 64 percent of the time.
rivendell's top performer was clearly
A. Silvino.
On the other hand,
V. Păduraru's play was disheartening.
F. Reguera performed admirably for Atletico.
L. Baak was a disappointment, however.
The match ends 4 - 1.
