31-03-2012 14.00
Fairly good weather for football had drawn a crowd of 57433 to
Riggs Memorial.
Franck Protais was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Orlando Frunzã and
Jannick Dyrberg.
A 4-5-1 alignment was the formation of choice for Limitada.
Starters: Mäklin - Juvanen, Carril, Sieradzki, Tini - Ribeiro, Laux, Jonsson, Ebersbach, Šola - Friz.
Piratona had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation.
The following players took the field: Quintana - Gurnell, Irazoki, Křivohlávek - Sancho, Federigui, Monroy, Pagespetit, Camisasca - Estrader, Palafox.
After 30 minutes, the Limitada coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving
G. Jonsson off the field.
S. Marzoratti took his place.
M. Ribeiro was the new captain of Limitada - handed the armband by the departing player.
34 minutes into the game,
N. Gurnell was a hair's breadth away from giving Piratona the lead with a shot from over on the left. A prompt block by
T. Mäklin saved the home team that time.
Halftime score was 0 - 0.
Piratona had most of the ball, with 55 percent of possession.
The referee showed Piratona's
G. Křivohlávek the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge.
The visitors could have taken the lead from a free kick after 49 minutes, if it wasn't for the jaw-dropping save by
T. Mäklin.
Limitada had a good opportunity to take the lead as
E. Šola came up the left side, but he struck the ball weakly and it went straight into the arms of
S. Quintana.
A. Pagespetit of Piratona seemed to be floating in the air as he elegantly headed in to make the score 0 - 1 after a corner kick that was nicely executed by
G. Křivohlávek.
After a short break after 82 minutes, Piratona seemed to change their tactical approach a bit.
After 83 minutes of game time,
A. Pagespetit had an excellent opportunity to add to the visitors' lead, clipping a volley hooked in from the right, but
T. Mäklin was in the right place and tipped the ball over for a corner.
With 84 minutes gone, Piratona's
G. Křivohlávek had to leave the pitch after talking back to the referee and receiving his second booking.
With 85 minutes played, the Limitada coach decided a substitution may help turn the game around.
A. Berdejo came on,
L. Tini had to leave the fray.
J. Juvanen of Limitada received a yellow card after 86 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour.
Limitada needed a fresh pair of legs on the field, and after 89 minutes
T. Mäklin made way for
G. Pruiti.
Piratona enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 52 percent of possession.
O. Laux performed admirably for Limitada.
G. Pruiti was a disappointment, however.
The most dominating Piratona player was without a doubt
M. Federigui.
On the other hand,
O. Irazoki's play was disheartening.
The match ends 0 - 1.
