Clear skies welcomed the 32566 spectators who had made their way to Coliseum Miguel Cousau. Roberto Madureira was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Per Bredal Nielsen and Olly Krijnen. Our studio analysts were correct. Football has taken the field in a 4-5-1 alignment. Starters: Ludvigsen - Hietala, Shalom, Zaborowski, Maravilla - Unseld, Vana, Infanzón, Crivelli, Mendes - Alvertis.

Cry "havoc" and let loose the dogs of war! Garnata will go to battle in a 4-4-2 formation. They fielded: Ceballos - Martínez, Vázquez, Jado, Vitorica - Ederra, Ródenas, Caión, Pagoto - Valero Giménez, Paleologos.

Garnata's game plan was to sit back and absorb the pressure, then use their magnificent ability to break on the counter whenever possible. Garnata were pushed back, and had many dangerous counter-attacks. An impressive one resulted in a free kick 12 minutes into the match, but J. Pagoto put it just wide. After 23 minutes, Garnata's D. Martínez successfully broke up a pass with his face. Instinctively, he got up again only to unintentionally use his now-throbbing schnozz to break up a second pass. As he was carted off for a concussion check, X. Gassió ran onto the field to take his place. As quick as a flash, R. Paleologos of Garnata lost his man and passed the ball to the wide-open R. Valero Giménez who easily hit it home to make it 0 - 1. 0 - 1 was the score after the first half. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Football would have 67 percent possession in this half was spot on!

60 minutes into the game, Garnata adjusted their style of play and hoped to close out the game with their lead intact. After a short break 60 minutes in, Garnata seemed to change their tactical approach a bit. In an effort to secure the lead, Garnata changed their tactics after 60 minutes. With things not going too well on the field, the Football coach made the decision to swap the positions of S. Alvertis and A. Vana after 65 minutes. The bench was restless, and with 65 minutes gone Football's coach gave J. Paris the opportunity to try to change the team's fortunes. S. Alvertis reluctantly left the field. With 65 minutes played, the Football coach decided a substitution may help turn the game around. F. Huibers came on and G. Maravilla had to leave the fray. The goal to make it 0 - 2 was scored by A. Vázquez with 69 minutes on the clock, following an opportunistic counter-attack down the middle by Garnata. At this point, it was obvious that the players of Garnata lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented. After 72 minutes, the defensive line of Garnata created a counter-attack through the middle that gave F. Vitorica a good look at goal, but his shot glanced harmlessly off the crossbar. L. Hietala seemed to be defying gravity as he elegantly headed in a goal for Football after a corner kick that was nicely executed by R. Unseld. That makes it 1 - 2. Although the whole team were struggling to impress, Football's R. Unseld was singled out as being the problem as he was called off the field after 89 minutes. R. Olazábal Solís was given a chance to change things around. Football set the tempo, maintaining 69 percent of possession.

D. Infanzón performed admirably for Football. I can't remember R. Olazábal Solís ever having a worse night than he just had. Garnata's top performer was clearly R. Paleologos. Good thing X. Gassió isn't a horse, because he'd surely be sent to the glue factory after that performance. The match ends 1 - 2.
