Atl. 1 - 3 TRIGÚEY

It was an exceptionally sunny day for the crowd of 32734 that came out to Multiusos de San Lázaro. Fans of both teams had been eagerly awaiting this Galicia rivalry match and were doing their best to outshout their opponents. Our studio analysts were correct. Atl. has taken the field in a 2-5-3 alignment. The following players had been selected: Erdağ - Kallström, Frechilla - Ehrenberger, Puigdevànol, García Carpintero, Molina, Aleksandrov - Kaftan, Edendahl, Brüll.

After thorough analysis and consultation of astrological charts, TRIGÚEY decided to go with a 4-5-1 formation. They fielded: Canela - Corbeij, Dimakakos, Lleida, Sanguino - van Gemert, Baiñas, Pérez, Hernando, Donati - Vilademuls.

Using their world class counter-attacking abilities was the strategy of choice for TRIGÚEY today. The home side put themselves ahead 1 - 0 after 17 minutes of hard work with a breakthrough from R. García Carpintero, who, all by his lonesome, came out of the right wing and hooked the ball over the visitors' keeper. Atl.'s F. Kaftan had an excellent opportunity 32 minutes in, shooting after bringing down a ball from the right, but he missed the goal by miles! TRIGÚEY tied it all up, 34 minutes in, after a spectacular goal by S. Pérez, who miraculously broke through the home side's central defense, making it 1 - 1. Though it was beautiful soccer, the home crowd did not enjoy F. Corbeij's goal after a run down the left with 37 minutes on the clock. TRIGÚEY lead, 1 - 2. It was 1 - 2 at the break. The Count appeared on the jumbotron and announced that Atl. had 62...62 percent possession. AH AH AH!

After 54 minutes, TRIGÚEY were awarded a free kick as their counter-attack broke down. The set piece fell right at the target man's feet, but he was taken by surprise, having expected his marker to clear the ball out, and made a mess of the finish. The TRIGÚEY coach was happy with the scoreline, but still wanted to change the lineup. After 65 minutes, J. Endara came on for P. Baiñas. J. Endara was handed the TRIGÚEY captain's armband. P. Edendahl found it hard to catch his breath today in the stifling heat. Content with how the game was proceeding, the TRIGÚEY coach let S. Lettenbauer come on for S. Pérez after 75 minutes. F. van Gemert had put in a good 80 minutes and left the field with a smile on his face due to his team's lead. D. Krústev was the replacement. After 80 minutes, a mistake by the home side's left defense allowed B. Vilademuls to get through. He outclassed the home side's keeper, adding another goal for the visitors. 1 - 3. As usual, S. Dimakakos tried to use his strength and hard work for the benefit of the team, but the heat hit him hard on this day and he couldn't keep up his pace at all. 84 minutes into the game, T. Puigdevànol had to leave the field due to a knee injury. In came E. Toledano. Atl. had a magnificent opportunity with 87 minutes gone as J. Molina hit the ball hard from the edge of the penalty box. However, the shot went wide. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Atl. would have 55 percent possession in this half was spot on!

F. Kaftan performed admirably for Atl.. I can't remember E. Toledano ever having a worse night than he just had. TRIGÚEY's top performer was clearly G. Donati. Good thing A. Hernando isn't a horse, because he'd surely be sent to the glue factory after that performance. The match ends 1 - 3.
