05-05-2012 14.00
The crowd of 24173 turning up at
El Garbanzal today were greeted with some nasty showers of rain.
Sergiu Balint was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Oliver Krause and
Rui Silva.
A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Espanitafp.
They fielded: Viarani - Biłek, Kattendüster, Zawiski - Jacobitz, Pereira Brandão, Carrabal, Berg Sørensen, Gustavsson - Ivgy, Mateyko.
Algeciras started off with a 3-4-3 lineup.
Starters: Windhager - Labbé, Cervelón, Amils Pibernat - Calmet, Farr, Griver, Muñoz - Virués, Rainer, Cabirol.
K. Zawiski had a hard time on the waterlogged pitch - his trademark technique was nowhere in sight today.
10 minutes into the game,
F. Muñoz was a hair's breadth away from giving Algeciras the lead with a shot from over on the left. A prompt block by
G. Viarani saved the home team that time.
M. Gustavsson finished off the counterattack of Espanitafp from the left rather easily, making the score 1 - 0.
M. Gustavsson had a fantastic opportunity to put Espanitafp up another goal 16 minutes into the match, but he fired just over the crossbar.
The visitors didn't give in and, after 23 minutes,
V. Virués got through the home side's central line of defence, rolling in the equaliser to make it 1 - 1.
Espanitafp took the lead after 28 minutes as a result of
R. Berg Sørensen's peach of a shot from the right hand side of the box - placed beautifully in the top corner. 2 - 1.
After 39 minutes, the away team failed to deal with a good exchange of passes on the right, and
S. Pereira Brandão gave the Espanitafp supporters even more to cheer about when he increased the lead to 3 - 1.
Espanitafp's
K. Zawiski saw his fine effort strike the top of the bar following some good work up the middle by his teammates after 40 minutes.
The teams went for the halftime break at 3 - 1.
Possession in this half belonged to Algeciras, who controlled the ball 52 percent of the time.
Algeciras's right side looked dangerous after 71 minutes, as
V. Virués broke through.
G. Viarani continued to stifle them, however, as he made the save look easy.
Things were going to get worse for the visitors.
W. Kattendüster squirmed through their central defence after 73 minutes, increasing the lead to 4 - 1.
By now, the players in Espanitafp felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward.
A well-executed free kick by
R. Berg Sørensen after 77 minutes made it 5 - 1 for Espanitafp.
The visiting team's coach wasn't happy with
S. Amils Pibernat after he missed an opportunity to reduce the score from the penalty spot 78 minutes into the match.
Algeciras enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 53 percent of possession.
Espanitafp's top performer was clearly
J. Mateyko.
However,
M. Carrabal made a disastrous appearance.
Most important Algeciras player was
V. Virués.
L. Windhager on the other hand, had a terrible day.
The match ends 5 - 1.
