A brilliantly sunny day had enticed a crowd of 19068 to Vladimir Illich Lenin Arena. Heniek Tobiański was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Wiktor Wygocki and Mikko Pönkänen. Úbeda took a soft shot from the left flank that was easy prey for the alert keeper. Kalataray's slick passing moves completely confused the defence after 27 minutes, but thanks to A. Gualotuña's miraculous save from I. Pappinen's long shot the score remained unchanged. Gorrria had a chance to take the lead after A. Henao's dazzling drive up the left, but the opportunity fizzled out as his shot went just over the bar after 29 minutes. One of many good crosses from I. Pappinen on the wing was received and skillfully taken care of by P. Stroenko, who scored for Kalataray. 0 - 1 Good work by the Kalataray defensive line after 34 minutes produced a good counterattack chance, which cut elegantly down the middle of the pitch and found W. Úbeda alone in front of the goal, but his shot whistled just wide. 42 minutes in, Gorrria's M. Rädler received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. 0 - 1 was the halftime score. Possession in this half belonged to Gorrria, who controlled the ball 62 percent of the time.

Some fine passing in the middle of the pitch, carving open the away defence, should have led to a goal for Gorrria, but S. Polizzi's shot went over the bar. The visitors' D. As the captain was no longer on the pitch, T. van Esseveldt took over the role of being the Gorrria captain. The home crowd was given a certain amount of consolation when S. Polizzi scored after a brilliant midfield combination through the centre, reducing the lead to 1 - 2. A. Florian of Kalataray received a yellow card after 84 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour.
