Canelo 2 - 4 Normal

Clouds darkened the skies at Canelo Arena as 30000 spectators turned up for the match. Federico Rovetta was the appointed referee. People from all over Comunitat Valenciana had joined up for the rivalry game. Gentlemen prefer blondes and Canelo prefers a 3-5-2. Let's see how this plays out for them. They fielded: Vasconcelos - Azañón, Remia, El-Rashid - Dinkić, Collins, Barrobés, Pompeia, Tortolero - Quintavalla, Alguersuari.

After thorough analysis and consultation of astrological charts, Normal decided to go with a 3-5-2 formation. The following players took the field: Llamosí - Iñiguez, Mercadal, Quintín - Elisabeth, Ildefonso, Servalls, Empuerto, Robu - Meskó, Bolado.

With the clock showing 1 minutes, the fourth official held up the substitution board. D. Dinkić looked to see that it was his number in red, so he made his way over to the sideline and swapped out for A. Lévai, though he would have liked to continue. The suddenness of C. Mercadal of Normal's pass to V. Meskó caught the opposition looking the wrong way, and they could only watch as the ball sailed home for 0 - 1. With 25 minutes played, seemingly due to lack of experience, E. Remia needlessly tripped an opponent just outside the penalty area, but the free kick that followed didn't succeed. Normal's A. Empuerto received a ball slotted perfectly through the home side's central defense after 27 minutes, and chipped it past the helpless keeper to increase the lead to 0 - 2. The away fans won't regret traveling for this one! Given a free kick from an impossible angle, Canelo went for a play that loyal fans may recognize from training. A square ball surprised the defense and let M. Quintavalla slip through at goal. He hit it first time, making the score 1 - 2, 36 minutes into the game. The home fans looked somber as they watched their team give up another goal, this one coming from their right as F. Servalls put one through the keeper's legs. 1 - 3 after 39 minutes. C. Mercadal increased the visitors' lead by volleying in a pass from the right. 1 - 4. 1 - 4 was the halftime score. The Count appeared on the jumbotron and announced that Normal had 59...59 percent possession. AH AH AH!

M. Barrobés of Canelo received a yellow card after 51 minutes for unsportsmanlike behavior. The crowd groaned when R. Alguersuari, having maneuvered his way down the right, fired the ball just wide and missed a great opportunity to pull one back for Canelo. A bit of home cooking with 76 minutes gone led to a free kick for N. El-Rashid, who scored to make it 2 - 4. The forty-five minutes were dominated by Normal, with an impressive 60 percent possession of the ball.

Canelo's top performer was clearly M. Quintavalla. Even six year old fans were wincing at the poor play by E. Remia today. Most important Normal player was D. Bolado. Good thing I. Robu isn't a horse, because he'd surely be sent to the glue factory after that performance. The match ends 2 - 4.
