It had rained all day, but 20769 hardy fans still made it out to
Time to Arena.
Ib Clemmensen was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Alberto del Valle and
Rober Harvey.
win! decided to use a 2-5-3 set up.
Lineup: Antimonov - Campaniello, Givon - López, Anghel, Arceo, Fattorini, Haddad - van der Lem, Wilczok, Rubio Martínez.
A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for CA.
The following players took the field: Salaun - Toro, Vulin, Ballesteros - Idiáquez, Della Giovanna, Cifer, Sánchez Ochoa, Muntada - Abdollahi, André.
CA tried to focus their attacks down the middle.
Some good play on the left wing created an opportunity for the visitors 10 minutes into the match, and
F. Della Giovanna wasn't about to let it go by. He got past the defenders and fired a shot that the keeper just missed. 0 - 1 for the visitors.
The home crowd was not impressed when
J. Ballesteros came in from the right, shooting hard to score after 26 minutes. CA were now up 0 - 2.
D. Abdollahi came close to extending the visitors' lead when he found himself completely unmarked in front of the goal after a pass through the middle. He tried to lift the ball over
D. Antimonov but overcooked it and hit the bar instead.
The crowd groaned when
S. Fattorini, having maneuvered his way down the right, fired the ball just wide and missed a great opportunity to reduce the deficit for win!.
With 31 minutes played, CA put themselves up 0 - 3 after an attack from the right, caused by a defensive blunder. The scorer was
S. André.
The muddy pitch made the game a gritty affair, which seemed to suit
H. López just fine.
After 33 minutes, an incisive pass through the middle gave
M. Cifer a chance to increase the lead for CA, and he did not disappoint. The score was then 0 - 4.
The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
C. Toro from CA a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 37 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient!
A late sliding challenge from
C. Toro was deemed to be his second yellow card offence by the referee, resulting in him being sent off, and CA left a man down.
It was 0 - 4 at the break.
CA had most of the ball, with 55 percent of possession.
It was obvious that team CA had instructions to attack in the middle instead of on the wings.
The visitors'
D. Abdollahi took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 60 minutes into the match. 0 - 5 for CA.
The players of CA now seemed to think the job was done and acted more defensively, just waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle.
After 65 minutes of game time,
M. Cifer had an excellent opportunity to add to the visitors' lead, clipping a volley hooked in from the right, but
D. Antimonov was in the right place and tipped the ball over for a corner.
69 minutes into the match, the visitors put themselves ahead 0 - 6 as
M. Cifer finished off an attack from the left with a spectacular scissors kick.
F. Della Giovanna was struggling to make the ball dance with his usual trickery and panache, and the opposing players had little trouble shutting him down in these muddy conditions.
S. André of CA took advantage of a mistake on the home side's right after 73 minutes which increased the away team's lead to 0 - 7.
Neither team were able to dominate possession this half.
win!'s best player was
S. Fattorini.
A. Campaniello on the other hand, had a terrible day.
M. Cifer performed admirably for CA.
M. Idiáquez turned in a dismal performance, however.
The match ends 0 - 7.
