The weather was pretty good, and a crowd of 40225 had shown up at
Erpiso Arena Galega for the match.
Lucijan Luk was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Richard Hoogerheide and
Kristoffer Lundman.
Erpiso tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination.
The following players took the field: Begay - Katić, Sensini, Grus - Portillo, Gebell, Gomis, Texidor, Montero - Albarell, Vermeeren.
A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for diamons.
The following players had been chosen: Diaz - Larsen, Dzelzis, Zachinno - Stoeckmann, Preinitzer, Paz, Casino, Ene - Klemens, Galicia.
Erpiso used their ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the pitch, rather than on the wings.
After 4 minutes,
A. Albarell came in from the right, feinted, then sped past the off-balance defender to make the score 1 - 0, giving Erpiso the lead.
Things were deteriorating for the away team as Erpiso scored another to make it 2 - 0 after a left side attack resulted in a goal for
L. Vermeeren after 18 minutes.
23 minutes into the game,
H. Zachinno had to leave the pitch due to a knee injury. In came
C. Rădăcină.
After 29 minutes, a couple of quick and successful challenges followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area by
J. Portillo might have resulted in another goal for Erpiso. However,
S. Diaz made a spectacular save.
The referee showed Erpiso's
J. Portillo the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge.
A loud groan was heard from the fans of diamons, as
R. Paz left the pitch in too much pain to finish the match.
Z. Lušina took his place on the field.
G. Bălae was called on to replace diamons's
F. Galicia after 37 minutes following a nasty collision.
The teams went for the halftime break at 2 - 0.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Erpiso, with 60 percent of the ball.
Erpiso's
L. Vermeeren struck his penalty well enough to beat the goalkeeper and extend the home team's lead to 3 - 0 after 50 minutes.
Ó. Montero had a fantastic opportunity to put Erpiso up another goal 54 minutes into the match, but he fired just over the crossbar.
Erpiso players heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead.
Í. Gebell should probably have put his team up another goal after 60 minutes, but some great goalkeeping by
S. Diaz kept the visitors in the game.
diamons had no available replacements when
P. Casino had to leave the game after 61 minutes because of a pulled tendon, leaving the team a man short.
As the captain was no longer on the pitch,
J. Dzelzis took over the role of being the diamons captain.
diamons reduced the lead after 73 minutes to 3 - 1 as
C. Rădăcină easily chipped the ball past the home side's keeper after a dazzling play from the right.
M. Gomis could have increased the lead after 81 minutes, but his shot hit the post after a nice combination in the middle of the park.
Erpiso enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 64 percent of possession.
The most dominating Erpiso player was without a doubt
O. Texidor.
E. Sensini was a disappointment, however.
S. Klemens performed admirably for diamons.
S. Diaz on the other hand, had a terrible day.
The match ends 3 - 1.
