Logroño 0 - 11 Ancares

The weather was pretty good, and a crowd of 5947 had shown up at Toumba Stadium de Logroño for the match. Costel Deleanu was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Torben Mangold and Kent Yngvesson. Logroño had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation. They fielded: Calatayud - Ayora, Ianoşev, Garitano, Iñigo - Suso, Olaña, Silveira, Ordóñez - Cervati, Frías.

Ancares decided to use a 2-5-3 set up. Starters: Handbuechler - Coaña, Sevald - Lasoń, Vrtikapa, Dubbeling, Junqueira, Madini - Lizaran, Poelman, Aspenner.

The home crowd was not impressed by the fancy moves of Ancares's S. Junqueira after 8 minutes. He converted a pass from the left for a goal, resulting in the visitors taking the 0 - 1 lead. After 9 minutes, a mistake by the home side's left defence allowed F. Poelman to get through. He outclassed the home side's keeper, adding another goal for the visitors. 0 - 2. After this, you could see that the players of Ancares were more interested in killing time than scoring more goals. R. Coaña increased the visitors' lead by putting a volley away after a pass from the right. 0 - 3. A. Madini received a delicate pass through the home side's central defence after 18 minutes, and chipped it past the flailing keeper to score making it 0 - 4. The Ancares fans went wild, whilst the home fans started to think about leaving early. After 26 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for S. Junqueira who increased Ancares's lead to 0 - 5. After 29 minutes, there was a bit of a mixup on the field as Ancares found themselves out of position and their organisation level dropped to inadequate. 0 - 5 was the halftime score. Ancares claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 77 percent.

Despite his frustration resulting in the smashing of a few teacups, the coach of Ancares was able to get his message across, and raised Ancares's organisation to solid. The visitors' A. Aspenner took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 52 minutes into the match. 0 - 6 for Ancares. 67 minutes into the game, Ancares seemed a little tentative in their play as their organization fell to passable. 69 minutes into the match, the visitors put themselves ahead 0 - 7 as F. Poelman finished off an attack from the left with a spectacular scissors kick. What ever got into A. Olaña, the crowd mumbled, as he suddenly struck a cross pass through his own defence - ending up right in front of Ancares's A. Madini, who easily put the ball away for 0 - 8 after 81 minutes. Ancares increased their lead after 82 minutes when S. Lasoń broke through on the right, upping the score to 0 - 9, much to the home crowd's dismay. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave E. Iñigo from Logroño a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 86 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! With 88 minutes played, Ancares put themselves up 0 - 10 after an attack from the right, caused by a defensive blunder. The scorer was A. Madini. By then A. Madini had scored three goals - a hat trick! After 89 minutes, an incisive pass through the middle gave A. Aspenner a chance to increase the lead for Ancares, and he did not disappoint. The score was then 0 - 11. Ancares enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 82 percent of possession.

The most dominating Logroño player was without a doubt L. Ianoşev. However, A. Olaña made a disastrous appearance. E. Lizaran performed admirably for Ancares. J. Handbuechler on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 0 - 11.
