Rábano 4 - 1 Fone

Overcast weather free of rain made for a turnout of 8291 at La era today. Anders Gottman was the appointed referee. Cry "havoc" and let loose the dogs of war! Rábano will go to battle in a 3-5-2 formation. Starters: Gold - Aguado Renedo, Synówka, Roelas - Tomić, Berdeogas, Calkhoven, Berggren, Encina - Maldini, Torsson.

Gentlemen prefer blondes and Fone prefers a 4-4-2. Let's see how this plays out for them. The following players had been selected: Viron - Farigu, Alaia, Gallardo, Mestrinho - Malagrida, Sacco, Imperador, Oliveira Antunes - García de la Plata, Da Cruz.

Rábano decided to play creatively. J. Encina is making an astonishing dash. The fans are chanting his name. You can hear it reverberate around the stadium. Now a manic sprint up the middle and into the box. Oh! He's thrown open the door! He's thrown open the door, shot the ball through, and slammed the door shut on Mr. Tumnus! Rábano has taken the lead 16 minutes into the match, 1 to 0. There'll be no Turkish Delight after the match for the keeper! Rábano's A. Berggren struck his penalty well enough to beat the goalkeeper and extend the home team's lead to 2 - 0 after 27 minutes. With 31 minutes played, Fone's G. Oliveira Antunes pulled up limping after a savage, cowardly challenge. But he's not yet ready to shuffle off this mortal coil. He's staying in to play on. The valiant never taste of death but once! C. Roelas increased Rábano's lead to 3 - 0, connecting with a hooked ball from the right. The away fans are claiming handball, to no avail. 3 - 0 was the score after the first half. Lewis Skolnick, in his Tri-Lamb sweater, grabbed the microphone away from the Rábano coach in order to tell him that his team had 76 percent possession this half. Nerds.

47 minutes into the game, Rábano's X. Berdeogas tried to nail the coffin shut, but his shot from the left glanced off the top of the bar to fall behind the net. A. Maldini had a fantastic opportunity to put Rábano up another goal 48 minutes into the match, but he fired just over the crossbar. G. Oliveira Antunes seemed to be defying gravity as he elegantly headed in a goal for Fone after a corner kick that was nicely executed by I. García de la Plata. That makes it 3 - 1. After 65 minutes, Fone substituted J. Sacco for V. Hirth, hoping for a quick impact on the field. The bench was restless, and with 69 minutes gone Fone's coach gave A. Ramo Valero the opportunity to try to change the team's fortunes. G. Da Cruz reluctantly left the field. Fone almost scored after a swift counter-attack 72 minutes into the game, but V. Hirth put the shot from the left flank just outside the frame. After 74 minutes, A. Maldini put Rábano ahead 4 - 1 when he rose to head in a hooked ball, the result of an effort from the right side. By now, the players of Rábano felt that victory was a sure thing and began to play it safe, focusing on defense and not risking too much going forward. With 75 minutes played, Rábano's J. Encina received a yellow card for challenging a play with his cleats first. The referee showed Fone's I. García de la Plata the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. The forty-five minutes were dominated by Rábano, with an impressive 71 percent possession of the ball.

The most outstanding Rábano player was without a doubt A. Maldini. You can tell it was nickel beer night yesterday at the local bar because M. Tomić seemed to stumble all over the pitch. The local beauty queen presented Fone's I. García de la Plata with a prize turducken for being named Man of the Match. I can't remember M. Imperador ever having a worse night than he just had. The match ends 4 - 1.
