Fulas made a bid to take the lead as a ball coming in on the right hand side left J. Huete completely alone with keeper A. Fernández Solar, who made a spectacular block. Estudiantes's R. Ortega Aguilar was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 7 minutes. A. Helguera neatly controlled the ball after a short corner, and knocked it on to I. Rivas Barón who had the whole net open before him, but only managed to hit the post. Fulas fans held their breath as S. Allepuz scampered down the left side. He successfully avoided all challenges and cracked home the shot for 1 - 0! With 21 minutes gone, a long pass from the defence of Estudiantes resulted in a counterattack that set I. Lobató free through the middle, but the keeper made a spectacular diving save. There was concern in the stands when, at the 23 minute mark, Fulas's S. Allepuz hit the ground hard, but he refused the attention of the trainer and rejoined his teammates on the pitch. Halftime score was 1 - 0. Possession in this half belonged to Fulas, who controlled the ball 62 percent of the time.

Cheers filled the stadium as S. Allepuz broke through the visitors' central defence to put away the ball to increase the lead to 2 - 0 to Fulas. At this point, it was obvious that the players of Fulas lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented. A. Zahonero had a fantastic opportunity to put Fulas up another goal 55 minutes into the match, but he fired just over the crossbar. After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, P. Franca got himself booked. The manager of Estudiantes was not happy. The game was close to savage at times, and Estudiantes's P. Franca received a second yellow card after 88 minutes; his ticket out of the game. Unfortunately for Fulas, S. Allepuz was injured when the game became more physical, and he had to leave the field. R. Gastañaduy replaced him. Fulas enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 62 percent of possession.

Fulas's top performer was clearly J. Huete. A. Helguera turned in a dismal performance, however. Most important Estudiantes player was C. Aunes. A. Irigoiti on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 2 - 0.
