previous 4/10 next 6/10  INYPC 0 - 9 pomelo (367831845)

The crowd of 5321 turning up at INYPC Arena today were greeted with some nasty showers of rain. Jordan Bouchart was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Vitaly Stasyuk and Jos Budts. INYPC tactics involved an interesting 4-4-2 combination. The following players had been chosen: Méndez Pombo - Robledo Villa, Ulzurrún, Cenoz, Couxela - Gartziandia, Estarelles, Urkina, Bula - Matons, Azabache.

pomelo had chosen a strategic 4-5-1 formation. Starters: Cerviño - Foufoutos, Akhvlediani, Karahan, Thiesen - Bardy, Bernuth, Dinarvand, Zaccari, Arduini - Ramírez.

It was an obvious ambition of pomelo to use their ability at attacking on the flanks. Given a free kick close to the byline, pomelo tried a move that loyal fans may recognise from training. A pass to the side pulled the defence out of position which let R. Foufoutos slip through on goal. He didn't have to break his stride, and slipped the ball past the keeper to make it 0 - 1, 17 minutes into the game. Thighs bulging, M. Azabache charged past the weaker players, seemingly oblivious to the rain. pomelo increased their lead after 21 minutes when M. Bernuth broke through on the right, upping the score to 0 - 2, much to the home crowd's dismay. It was obvious that pomelo had instructions to attack on the wings instead of in the middle. M. Dinarvand increased the visitors' lead by putting a volley away after a pass from the right. 0 - 3. After 30 minutes, a mistake by the home side's left defence allowed M. Bernuth to get through. He outclassed the home side's keeper, adding another goal for the visitors. 0 - 4. O. Karahan increased pomelo's lead to 0 - 5 with a superb free kick strike that flew in just under the far top corner. Confident in their lead, pomelo's players relaxed and focused more on defending the lead than increasing it. 0 - 5 was the score after the first half. pomelo claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 71 percent.

After 68 minutes, pomelo sent a free kick in high over the penalty box. In what looked like a well-rehearsed move, the ball was headed backwards and reached C. Arduini, who had plenty of space to place a well aimed shot - 0 - 6. With the clock showing 71 minutes played, a great pass from the defensive line of INYPC resulted in a counterattack that was smoothly brought under control by D. Estarelles in the centre of the opposition's penalty area, but his finish went high. The boggy pitch disrupted the game, especially for technical players like M. Dinarvand. R. Foufoutos of pomelo took advantage of a mistake on the home side's right after 79 minutes which increased the away team's lead to 0 - 7. E. Sulzer was called on to replace pomelo's V. Cerviño after 83 minutes following a nasty collision. M. Dinarvand was the new captain of pomelo - handed the armband by the departing player. With 85 minutes played, pomelo put themselves up 0 - 8 after an attack from the right, caused by a defensive blunder. The scorer was D. Bardy. After 86 minutes, an incisive pass through the middle gave M. Dinarvand a chance to increase the lead for pomelo, and he did not disappoint. The score was then 0 - 9. Possession in this half belonged to pomelo, who controlled the ball 82 percent of the time.

INYPC's best player was M. Azabache. M. Méndez Pombo turned in a dismal performance, however. The most dominating pomelo player was without a doubt S. Ramírez. However, E. Sulzer made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 0 - 9.
