previous 1/9 next 3/9  Machotes 9 - 0 Vongola (367854118)

Clouds darkened the skies at Los Gansos as 5034 spectators turned up for the match. Wulfram Schein was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Livio Strässle and Klas Andersson. Machotes had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation. Starters: Rueda La Fuente - Kokkila, Salvado, Porqueres, Quadra - Vázquez, Garret, Abaroa, Fromista - Gazaeta, Barrera.

Vongola started off with a 4-4-2 lineup. Lineup: Arnaud - Nieva, da Piuca, Guachichulca, Saccu - Sayım, Alacid, Sapielak, Ebbinge - Goyeneta, Sandner.

The wings were the focus of most of Machotes's attacks today. 13 minutes of the match played, and a comedy of errors by the home side gave the visitors a chance at the lead, but F. Goyeneta, after finding himself dashing down on goal from the left with only the keeper to beat, sliced his shot horribly wide. After 14 minutes, J. Quadra came in from the right, feinted, then sped past the off-balance defender to make the score 1 - 0, giving Machotes the lead. With 16 minutes played, the visitors could have drawn level after M. Guachichulca came through the middle, but his kick went wide. With 26 minutes played, Machotes put themselves up 2 - 0 when the visiting defenders lost the ball to P. Gazaeta, who came up from the left and proceeded to coolly round the keeper and knock the ball home. After 31 minutes, the away team failed to deal with a good exchange of passes on the right, and P. Gazaeta gave the Machotes supporters even more to cheer about when he increased the lead to 3 - 0. In an effort to secure the lead, Machotes changed their tactic after 31 minutes. A speedy charge from the left side of the field increased the lead of Machotes to 4 - 0 as O. Kokkila finished it off competently, firing in from an acute angle. At this point, it was obvious that the players of Machotes lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented. Halftime score was 4 - 0. Machotes enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 56 percent of possession.

After 52 minutes, Machotes's P. Barrera swiftly ran past M. Guachichulca and nutmegged the keeper! 5 - 0. With 67 minutes played, the Vongola coach decided a substitution may help turn the game around. L. Lyngaa came on, M. Sandner had to leave the fray. Although the whole team were struggling to impress, Vongola's L. Saccu was singled out as being the problem as he was called off the pitch after 72 minutes. T. Wirtz was given a chance to change things around. 72 minutes into the game, Vongola's attack got through on the right, but A. Nieva couldn't handle the ball and his feeble kick wound up in the keeper's arms. 75 minutes in, Vongola's T. Wirtz received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. P. Barrera increased the lead for Machotes to 6 - 0, getting a head onto a hooked ball from the right. The ball looked to have taken a deflection on the way in, but he's claiming it! Things were going to get worse for the visitors. P. Barrera squirmed through their central defence after 82 minutes, increasing the lead to 7 - 0. At that, P. Barrera was noted down for a hat trick! Machotes solidified their lead at the 86 minute mark, as J. Quadra dribbled the ball through the opposing central defence and scored to make it 8 - 0. The Machotes free kick 87 minutes into the match seemed wasted, as the shot was both short and off target. But was this actually a plan? The ball landed at the feet of R. Fromista, who was completely unmarked in the box. That's 9 - 0! The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave M. Guachichulca from Vongola a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 88 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! Machotes had most of the ball, with 65 percent of possession.

Machotes's best player was P. Barrera. S. Abaroa on the other hand, had a terrible day. The most dominating Vongola player was without a doubt L. Lyngaa. W. Sapielak turned in a dismal performance, however. The match ends 9 - 0.
