15312 spectators had come to
Alzey - Worms Arena this cloudy day.
Gino Rosenast was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Amadeus Mbemba and
Marko Krasnik.
Alzey tactics involved an interesting 4-4-2 combination.
The following players took the field: Zomer - Köthen, Tóbiás, Dudoplatz, Icking - Rondamanskas, Suuronen, Schemper, Lemburg - Gerič, Draber.
Ihrefelder decided to use a 3-5-2 set up.
They fielded: Mohanty - Laving, Garré, Sallantaus - Neuman, Haudek, Soares, Canteros, Kubiak - Scherf, Bornholdt.
After the game, the most discussed event will probably be the penalty given after 2 minutes that gave the visitors the 0 - 1 lead. Despite the controversy,
F. Soares struck home the penalty, as cool as anything.
J. Sallantaus could have put his team up another goal 4 minutes into the game, after a rush down the left, but his closing shot hit the post.
Ihrefelder's
M. Canteros made it through the home team's defence on the right hand side 19 minutes into the match. After rounding the keeper, he only had to place the ball in the unguarded goal when a defender slid in and cleared the ball off the line.
Alzey had to make a substitution after 29 minutes.
T. Suuronen limped off the field and was replaced by
M. Balde.
A defender managed to keep the ball from crossing the goal-line after a curling shot coming in from the right from
B. Haudek after 31 minutes, and prevented Ihrefelder from going up another goal.
A well placed corner kick from
J. Schemper was followed by
M. Lemburg's hard but accurate header. The well executed routine resulted in a goal for Alzey, the score now 1 - 1.
It was 1 - 1 at the break.
Ihrefelder claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 69 percent.
Alzey played a good counterattacking move down the left 48 minutes into the match, with
J. Dudoplatz finishing well for 2 - 1.
With 60 minutes played,
J. Draber of Alzey fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Ihrefelder, with 69 percent of the ball.
Alzey's top performer was clearly
O. Zomer.
J. Schemper turned in a dismal performance, however.
Most important Ihrefelder player was
M. Canteros.
U. Mohanty was a disappointment, however.
The match ends 2 - 1.
