Kals 3 - 1 Cotchin
(371393722)

18-03-2012 04.00
The 66944 fans in attendance at
Kalidome were roasting in the hot sun.
Riewerd van Avezaat was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Ruggiero Meiszburger and
Ondřej Martinka.
Kals started off with a 3-5-2 lineup.
Lineup: Raja - Riley, Jedinak, Kepert - O'Connor, Maric, Warlow, Eliopoulos, Bushaway - Ogden, Hawker.
Cotchin decided to use a 4-4-2 set up.
Starters: Umar - Stehrenberger, Esterripa, Bökenbarg, Kodada - Enescu, Russo, Madigan, Ripoll - Puig Leal, Mülldorf.
Counter-attacking seemed to be the preferred strategy of Cotchin.
The home side put themselves ahead 1 - 0 after 5 minutes courtesy of a breakthrough from
I. Ogden, who scored with a stunning volley following a cross from the right wing.
After 15 minutes, a couple of quick and successful challenges followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area by
D. Bushaway might have resulted in another goal for Kals. However,
Ş. Umar made a spectacular save.
Several players seemed a little dazed by the warm weather, and were repeatedly tricked by the clever and agile
J. Puig Leal.
Things were deteriorating for the away team as Kals scored another to make it 2 - 0 after a left side attack resulted in a goal for
E. Kepert after 35 minutes.
In an effort to secure the lead, Kals changed their tactic after 35 minutes.
After 35 minutes, the Kals players received new instructions from their manager on how to keep in control of the game.
It was 2 - 0 at the break.
Kals enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 60 percent of possession.
Given a free kick close to the byline, Kals tried a move that loyal fans may recognise from training. A pass to the side pulled the defence out of position which let
A. Warlow slip through on goal. He didn't have to break his stride, and slipped the ball past the keeper to make it 3 - 0, 59 minutes into the game.
The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
E. Kepert from Kals a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 63 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient!
The Kals players could smell victory in the air.
D. Bushaway wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for
L. Gumble after 65 minutes.
81 minutes into the game,
A. Warlow had to leave the pitch due to a knee injury. In came
L. Manzoor.
Usually a powerful player on the field,
L. Gumble looked kind of pale and tired under the hot sun.
B. Hawker could have increased the lead after 87 minutes, but his shot hit the post after a nice combination in the middle of the park.
Cotchin managed to reduce the score to 3 - 1 as
J. Puig Leal finished off a well-played combination from the left, easily carving through the defence.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Kals, with 63 percent of the ball.
The most dominating Kals player was without a doubt
I. Ogden.
On the other hand,
L. Gumble's play was disheartening.
Cotchin's top performer was clearly
J. Puig Leal.
F. Kodada on the other hand, had a terrible day.
The match ends 3 - 1.
