Cotchin 5 - 0 Villains

62536 fans braved the pouring rain at
Rising Star Arena.
Günther Brockhoff was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Johann Werthmüller and
Guillermo López Soto.
Fans of both teams had been eagerly awaiting this
Victoria derby and were doing their best to outshout their opponents.
Cotchin had chosen a strategic 3-4-3 formation.
They fielded: Umar - Stehrenberger, Bökenbarg, Osmond - Ripoll, Russo, Madigan, Zacharias - Puig Leal, Peric, Lie.
Villains decided to use a 4-4-2 set up.
Lineup: Glendenning - Moorehouse, Thomas, Karkov, Waplington - Hay, Mulder, Ferrando, Clark - Moral, Wale.
Pressing was the tactic of the day for Villains.
After a savage shot that could only be parried by the keeper,
Á. Peric demonstrated his experience by being in just the right place to slot home the rebound. His goal for Cotchin 2 minutes into the match made the score 1 - 0.
With 5 minutes played, Cotchin put themselves up 2 - 0 when the visiting defenders lost the ball to
J. Bökenbarg, who came up from the left and proceeded to coolly round the keeper and knock the ball home.
Confident in their lead, Cotchin's players relaxed and focused more on defending the lead than increasing it.
The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
J. Puig Leal from Cotchin a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 12 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient!
After 25 minutes, the away team failed to deal with a good exchange of passes on the right, and
R. Lie gave the Cotchin supporters even more to cheer about when he increased the lead to 3 - 0.
The game was characterised by rough play and many physical challenges on the wet field, but
J. Bökenbarg showed great heart and had a good game.
Cotchin put themselves up 4 - 0 when
O. Ripoll broke through on the right, leaving the entire defence trailing in his wake.
Given a free kick in a difficult position after 32 minutes, Cotchin tried a variation that they had practised in training. The kick was sent into the area just in front of the keeper. However, the defence were on their toes and allowed no space for a finish.
4 - 0 was the score after the first half.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Cotchin, with 71 percent of the ball.
With 54 minutes gone, a long pass from the defence of Villains resulted in a counterattack that set
T. Wale free through the middle, but the keeper made a spectacular diving save.
J. Bökenbarg left the field with a smile on his face as he was substituted 60 minutes into the game, as his team was in the lead.
J. Esterripa was the replacement.
Á. Peric did not have a good day today, often losing his footing on the muddy pitch.
R. Lie had a hard time on the waterlogged pitch - his trademark technique was nowhere in sight today.
R. Lie increased the lead for Cotchin to 5 - 0, getting a head onto a hooked ball from the right. The ball looked to have taken a deflection on the way in, but he's claiming it!
O. Madigan should probably have put his team up another goal after 82 minutes, but some great goalkeeping by
G. Glendenning kept the visitors in the game.
Cotchin had most of the ball, with 72 percent of possession.
The most dominating Cotchin player was without a doubt
J. Puig Leal.
P. Zacharias was a disappointment, however.
Most important Villains player was
P. Clark.
T. Ferrando turned in a dismal performance, however.
The match ends 5 - 0.
