previous 6/9 next 8/9  Ipswich 0 - 5 Charlie (371419064)

12000 spectators arrived at Bundamba Oval, where weather conditions were pretty good for football. Joakim Christiansson was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Bernard Dufoor and Mickaël Robert. A 4-4-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Ipswich. Starters: Bain - Buser, Cusack, Ledger, Cratchley - Forbes, Secker, Hibbert, Lolesi - Brooks, Hussey.

Charlie tactics involved an interesting 4-4-2 combination. They fielded: Mack - Gilmore, Trung Chỉnh, Ketteringham, Grootjans - Kani, Talbot, Dennison, Kernaghan - Mereta, Rouvray.

Charlie took the lead 4 minutes into the game, making the score 0 - 1 after some elegant movement down the middle. J. Dennison was the scorer. A scuffle developed as players from both sides clashed following a tussle in the centre of the field 10 minutes into the match. After regaining order and consulting his linesman, the referee called Charlie's E. Gilmore to one side and produced a red card for the player. In a fantastic display of determination, Ipswich's K. Lolesi forced himself to his feet, after an opponent viciously knocked him down. After 19 minutes, a mistake by the home side's left defence allowed N. Rouvray to get through. He outclassed the home side's keeper, adding another goal for the visitors. 0 - 2. Charlie increased their lead after 28 minutes when D. Kani broke through on the right, upping the score to 0 - 3, much to the home crowd's dismay. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave D. Kernaghan from Charlie a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 32 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! After 35 minutes Ipswich's J. Secker had to be carried off on a stretcher in agony. H. Griggs came in to replace him. Charlie's D. Kernaghan showed his experience, anticipating the outcome of the opponent's defensive clearance and positioning himself perfectly to volley in an unstoppable shot from the edge of the box. 0 - 4. After this, you could see that the players of Charlie were more interested in killing time than scoring more goals. It was 0 - 4 at the break. Charlie enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 51 percent of possession.

J. Dennison was first to reach a ball launched long through the center from Charlie's defence 57 minutes into the game. He managed to keep his cool and beat the goalkeeper to make the score 0 - 5. After 59 minutes a well-practised indirect free kick routine by Ipswich was easily anticipated by the defenders. The players forward were so well marked, they were left with few viable options. Charlie claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 52 percent.

B. Cratchley performed admirably for Ipswich. S. Hibbert was a disappointment, however. Charlie's best player was N. Rouvray. K. Talbot turned in a dismal performance, however. The match ends 0 - 5.
