Ravens 4 - 0 Charlie

Due to an all-day shower, 11236 paying spectators got to see the game on a field-turned-swamp at The Aviary. Siniša Gilić was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Andreas Ackermann and Robert Utterer. Everyone was excited about the upcoming Victoria rivalry match and the crowd was divided evenly. Gentlemen prefer blondes and Ravens prefers a 4-5-1. Let's see how this plays out for them. The following players took the field: Węcławek - Cadeddu, Ingesson, Giroldini, Bartiakas - Bock, Kahlig, Efimenco, Archer, Pham - Mallat.

Cry "havoc" and let loose the dogs of war! Charlie will go to battle in a 4-4-2 formation. Lineup: Mack - Gilmore, Trung Chỉnh, Yap, Grootjans - Kani, Talbot, Muspratt, Prezerakos - Mereta, Rouvray.

Ravens showed off their creative tactics. After more pushing and shoving than a pack of helicopter moms trying to get the last appointment for their snowflakes to see the Easter Bunny, Ravens's M. Cadeddu finally got himself booked for a foul. After 27 minutes, Charlie's P. Trung Chỉnh successfully broke up a pass with his face. Instinctively, he got up again only to unintentionally use his now-throbbing schnozz to break up a second pass. As he was carted off for a concussion check, J. Dennison ran onto the field to take his place. With 28 minutes played, C. Mallat came in from the right with the intention of giving Ravens the lead, but his rocket of a shot could only rattle the crossbar. D. Kani was uncomfortable with the soggy field as he couldn't move the ball around with his usual grace. After 33 minutes of play, C. Mallat gave the home team a 1 - 0 lead after an attack coming in from the right. J. Archer was not content with his team's lead, and tried to extend it 35 minutes into the game after a nice run through the middle, but his shot went wide. Good work by Charlie's defensive line after 36 minutes produced a good counter-attack chance, one of which cut elegantly down the middle of the field and found M. Mereta alone in front of the goal, but his shot whistled just wide. After 39 minutes, Ravens were awarded a free kick. Rather than shooting straight at goal, the kicker went for an indirect variant which seemed to take his teammates a bit by surprise. N. Ingesson did manage a finish, but from an awkward position, sending the ball out of bounds. 1 - 0 was the halftime score. The forty-five minutes were dominated by Ravens, with an impressive 80 percent possession of the ball.

C. Mallat let loose a swerving effort from the right that the visitors' keeper did well to tip wide. 50 minutes had passed when Ravens put themselves up 2 - 0 after the visiting defenders lost the ball to C. Mallat, who came up from the left and proceeded to easily go around the goalkeeper and knock the ball home. Confident in their lead, Ravens's players relaxed and focused more on defending the lead than increasing it. Maybe S. Kahlig should join the aquatics team instead. He went down dramatically after 61 minutes, crying out with agony as he fell. The referee was not impressed, though, and showed him a yellow for diving. Some things can only be learned through experience, and V. Efimenco should take his lesson to heart after nearly gifting Charlie a goal after 64 minutes. Ravens added another goal to their lead as P. Giroldini struck home for 3 - 0 after an attack from the left set him up unmarked in front of the keeper. Ravens's P. Giroldini was shown a yellow card after 79 minutes for slicing down an opponent. Charlie were forced into a substitution as N. Rouvray couldn't continue playing due to some rough treatment, so P. Pammu had to come in from the bench. Ravens managed to extend their lead to 4 - 0 when J. Bock slid in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Ravens would have 85 percent possession in this half was spot on!

Most important Ravens player was J. Bock. I can't remember M. Cadeddu ever having a worse night than he just had. M. Mereta performed admirably for Charlie. Speaking of stinking up the place, B. Yap sure smelled like the bottom of Batman's shoe after a night of crimefighting in Gotham. The match ends 4 - 0.
