It was an exceptionally sunny day for the crowd of 12685 that came out to Cam Arena Rząśnik 1998. Gilles Guillouët was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Emanuele Perrot and Anders Ståhlborg. Rząśnik decided to use a 4-5-1 set up. The following players had been selected: Burša - Bošotina, van Harmelen, Farkas, Stenild - Ehrke, Lazaga, Leutgeb, George, Sayar - Deschkan.

A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Petrobras. Starters: Rasenheim - Alunno, Warrink, Sánchez - Feński, Geidulis, Geiwitsch, Rękawiecki, Perlinen - Sergiel, Byskov.

It was obvious that Rząśnik were using their pressing skill as their primary tactic. It was an obvious ambition of Petrobras to play a wide game, attacking down the wings rather than through the center. The pressing tactics used by Rząśnik were successful as the ball didn't make it out of the middle third very much. Rząśnik had a great opportunity to score following a counter-attack after 4 minutes, but G. Deschkan's shot from the left sailed high over the bar. The visitors grabbed the lead after S. Perlinen's successful free kick, resulting in a score of 0 - 1. Rząśnik's M. Lazaga got himself booked for a foul. Some fine one-twos on the left led to a Petrobras goal with 32 minutes gone, making it 0 - 2. D. Feński was noted down as the scorer. R. Warrink somehow managed to break free of his man on the left wing and only needed a relatively easy finish to bring Petrobras's lead up to 0 - 3. The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 3. Petrobras won the midfield battle for the half, with 59 percent possession of the ball.

Rząśnik needed a fresh pair of legs on the field, and after 46 minutes G. Deschkan made way for T. Ormachea. As Rząśnik's captain went off, he handed the armband to T. van Harmelen. After playing for 46 minutes and finding his team in a losing position, the manager hoped to turn things around. P. George was ordered to assume a different position on the field and switched places with S. Leutgeb. With this kind of heat, a slower passing game gives the best results. Unfortunately, this didn't suit F. Byskov at all, as he found he couldn't show off his noted strength and power because of the high temperatures. Content with how the game was proceeding, the Petrobras coach let D. Tozzi come on for M. Alunno after 50 minutes. The home crowd was not impressed when F. Byskov came in from the right, shooting hard to score after 52 minutes. Petrobras were now up 0 - 4. After this, you could see that Petrobras's players were mostly interested in killing time and holding on to their lead. Petrobras's Z. Rękawiecki wanted to play on, but after 60 minutes the decision was made to give F. Krupiński a chance in his place. After 65 minutes, Rząśnik substituted A. Sayar for K. Wieruszewski, hoping for a quick impact on the field. It might be a while before the fans see Rząśnik's T. van Harmelen again, after he had to leave the field in great distress at the 68 minute mark. He was replaced by J. Grobelna. S. Leutgeb became the new Rząśnik captain. With 78 minutes played, Petrobras's F. Krupiński received a yellow card for challenging a play with his cleats first. A crazy dribble in front of his own keeper by R. Warrink set up Rząśnik's T. Ormachea for an embarrassingly easy goal after 80 minutes. 1 - 4... With 86 minutes played, Petrobras put themselves up 1 - 5 after an attack from the right, caused by a defensive blunder. The scorer was D. Tozzi. Petrobras were doing a good job holding on to the ball, with 54 percent of possession.

Most important Rząśnik player was S. Leutgeb. P. George on the other hand, had a terrible day. B. Geiwitsch performed admirably for Petrobras. D. Tozzi was a disappointment, however. The match ends 1 - 5.
