Clear skies welcomed the 12000 spectators who had made their way to Kristall Stadium. Kamil Przygocki was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Simon Nolan and Maurice Valentine. The head coach flashed hand signals from the sideline and FkKristall formed up in a 4-4-2 combination. Let's hope the opposing sideline wasn't filming that. The following players had been selected: Gutor - Eremenko, Ishenko, Revut, Amekhin - Onopko, Bondarenko, Kupriyanov, Stogianov - Litvinenko, Bashin.

Cry "havoc" and let loose the dogs of war! RED.STAR will go to battle in a 3-4-3 formation. They fielded: Ämarik - Ivanchenkov, Bardazzi, Gómez Sánchez - Plakhotin, Medvedev, Queraltó, Sergienko - Légeron, Toonder, Żórawski.

Today, RED.STAR's strategy involved concentrating on the flanks for their attacks, taking advantage of their formidable ability. After more pushing and shoving than a pack of helicopter moms trying to get the last appointment for their snowflakes to see the Easter Bunny, FkKristall's M. Amekhin finally got himself booked for a foul. A. Ozonenko was called on to replace FkKristall's G. Onopko after 20 minutes following a nasty collision. The FkKristall captaincy was handed to M. Eremenko. RED.STAR were determined to attack down the sideline and their central attempts were constantly abandoned in favor of the wings. The bleachers were silenced after 28 minutes when RED.STAR's P. Żórawski put the guests ahead 0 - 1, following an attack on the right. After 32 minutes, a mistake by the home side's left defense allowed A. Medvedev to get through. He outclassed the home side's keeper, adding another goal for the visitors. 0 - 2. The referee showed RED.STAR's K. Toonder the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. The game had been going for 34 minutes when P. Żórawski broke through on the right, upping the score to 0 - 3 for RED.STAR, much to the home crowd's dismay. 36 minutes into the game, RED.STAR were awarded a penalty and O. Sergienko was able to increase the visitors' lead to 0 - 4, rolling the ball in off the right post. By now, the players of RED.STAR felt that victory was a sure thing and began to play it safe, focusing on defense and not risking too much going forward. Big paper red cards were being held up by the opposing supporters with 37 minutes on the clock after L. Bashin's mistimed tackle from behind. The referee only showed the FkKristall player a yellow card though. Players in RED.STAR heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their central attacks to the wings instead. FkKristall had to make a substitution after 41 minutes. V. Ishenko apparently was hit by a thrown bottle of Schlitz by one of the opposing players' fans, and now reeks of blood and bad beer. While the coach remonstrated with the side official about the situation, E. Mikitin finished his warmups and came on. Halftime score was 0 - 4. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that RED.STAR would have 71 percent possession in this half was spot on!

After 48 minutes, RED.STAR's L. Légeron burst through the central defense and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 0 - 5. P. Plakhotin made one of his many fine passes from the wing into the middle with 57 minutes played. L. Légeron went to the air and hit the ball firmly with his forehead for RED.STAR. 0 - 6. RED.STAR had a good opportunity to attack in the middle, but remembered their instructions to go down the wing instead. O. Sergienko somehow managed to break free of his man on the left wing and only needed a relatively easy finish to bring RED.STAR's lead up to 0 - 7. Some things can only be learned through experience, and E. Mikitin should take his lesson to heart after nearly gifting RED.STAR a goal after 75 minutes. The home fans looked somber as they watched their team give up another goal, this one coming from their right as P. Żórawski put one through the keeper's legs. 0 - 8 after 79 minutes. At that, P. Żórawski was noted down for a hattrick! 81 minutes into the match, the visitors put themselves ahead 0 - 9 as P. Żórawski finished off an attack from the left with a spectacular bicycle kick. Attacking on the wings was the theme of the day for RED.STAR, and they were successfully passing the ball outside from the middle. A. Medvedev increased the visitors' lead by volleying in a pass from the right. 0 - 10. RED.STAR were doing a good job holding on to the ball, with 75 percent of possession.

FkKristall's best player was M. Bondarenko. You can tell it was nickel beer night yesterday at the local bar because Y. Gutor seemed to stumble all over the pitch. RED.STAR's top performer was clearly K. Toonder. Speaking of stinking up the place, G. Ämarik sure smelled like the bottom of Batman's shoe after a night of crimefighting in Gotham. The match ends 0 - 10.
