Mercer 5 - 2 West (372875552)

Dark skies made the crowd of 18250 at Mercer Arena a little nervous, but the rain held off. Ilias Vrachnos was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Fynn Alexander Gemander and Fabio Petrillo. A 4-4-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Mercer. The following players had been chosen: Åhlstedt - Hansson, Hansson, Hansson, Carlsson - Larsson, Olsson, Valve, Hjorthall - Gransten, Granen.

West had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation. Starters: Holell - Fredriksson, Andersson, Igelby, Ångblom - Cedermar, Cronstad, Thorwald, Barbulović - Hultmo, Bengtsson.

Mercer had a good opportunity to take the lead as U. Larsson came up the left side, but he struck the ball weakly and it went straight into the arms of H. Holell. Mercer broke through on the left 7 minutes into the game, with U. Larsson firing in from an acute angle to give the home side a 1 - 0 lead. With 28 minutes played, Mercer put themselves up 2 - 0 when the visiting defenders lost the ball to F. Hansson, who came up from the left and proceeded to coolly round the keeper and knock the ball home. It was 2 - 0 at the break. Mercer claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 61 percent.

M. Valve increased the lead for Mercer to 3 - 0, getting a head onto a hooked ball from the right. The ball looked to have taken a deflection on the way in, but he's claiming it! Coming from the right, F. Gransten almost managed to score another goal for Mercer, but his header was tipped over the bar by the visitors' keeper. After 70 minutes, the away team failed to deal with a good exchange of passes on the right, and J. Hansson gave the Mercer supporters even more to cheer about when he increased the lead to 4 - 0. After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, T. Thorwald got himself booked. The manager of West was not happy. Mercer's U. Larsson increased the lead to 5 - 0, after he saw his shot go between the legs of the advancing goalkeeper following some good play down the right wing after 73 minutes. The referee showed Mercer's D. Olsson the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. A. Cronstad hit the corner kick straight to the keeper, but it was mishandled, giving West's M. Ångblom an easy chance to knock it in for 5 - 1. Morale on the visitors' bench was greatly improved when their M. Bengtsson reduced the lead to make it 5 - 2 after 82 minutes, following a pass from the right. A. Cronstad of West received a yellow card after 85 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour. Possession in this half belonged to Mercer, who controlled the ball 63 percent of the time.

M. Valve performed admirably for Mercer. However, J. Hansson made a disastrous appearance. The most dominating West player was without a doubt M. Bengtsson. H. Holell was a disappointment, however. The match ends 5 - 2.
