Weather conditions were fairly good for football, and
FC Holcim Arena saw a crowd turnout of 72509.
Mauricio Huerta was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Gazi Yülük and
Tino Ostertag.
A 4-4-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Holcim.
The following players had been chosen: Kim - Miestauskas, Chełmiński, Schoster, Kristensen - Strømberg, Knapen, Kokkalidis, Tunesi - Hassel, Hekim.
Clover had chosen a strategic 2-5-3 formation.
They fielded: Verstrepen - Weitering, Bouquin - Epiney, Dyg Rossen, Stenstedt, Beck, Wallbrücke - Sala, Achahuanco, Camerlynck.
Today, Holcim's strategy involved concentrating on the flanks for their attacks.
Holcim's
T. Kristensen got himself booked for a foul.
D. Beck came close to putting the visiting team one up 7 minutes into the match, following a solo raid down the middle, but
C. Kim managed to tip the ball to a corner.
25 minutes into the game, Holcim had difficulty finding their positions and their organisation dropped to
inadequate.
31 minutes into the match Clover's
N. Weitering couldn't take advantage of the penalty kick to put his team up by a goal.
0 - 0 was the halftime score.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Clover, with 57 percent of the ball.
Despite his frustration resulting in the smashing of a few teacups, the coach of Holcim was able to get his message across, and raised Holcim's organisation to
solid.
After 50 minutes,
Ç. Hekim came in from the right, feinted, then sped past the off-balance defender to make the score 1 - 0, giving Holcim the lead.
N. Hassel almost seemed to dance around
H. Dyg Rossen, his movements were so smooth. Unfortunately for Holcim, his finish ended up on the wrong side of the post.
Clover tied it all up, 73 minutes in, after a spectacular goal by
J. Camerlynck, who miraculously broke through the home side's central defence, making it 1 - 1.
77 minutes into the game,
H. Dyg Rossen had a great chance to put his team ahead, but his kick from the left went wide.
Some quick footwork on the left side of the field 79 minutes into the match left Clover's
N. Weitering completely free to score. 1 - 2 for the visitors.
After several obvious shirt pulling incidents,
H. Schoster got himself booked. The manager of Holcim was not happy.
Clover claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 54 percent.
Holcim's best player was
N. Hassel.
On the other hand,
D. Tunesi's play was disheartening.
The most dominating Clover player was without a doubt
J. Camerlynck.
L. Bouquin turned in a dismal performance, however.
The match ends 1 - 2.
