previous 6/10 next 8/10  Jackies 0 - 7 Koninklijke (372985952)

37782 fans braved the pouring rain at Back at Jack. Julian Mauritz was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Stanisław Ellwart and Brian Rosendal. A 4-2-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Jackies. Starters: Lachapelle - Lahe, Vannoorbeeck, Devarwaere, Gerasimou - Scheers, Francart - Fabre, Leurs.

Koninklijke decided to use a 3-4-3 set up. The following players had been chosen: Salojärvi - Meng, Lepore, Dalcq - Röling, Gigante, Paulusz, Macikowski - Vis, Impilä, Rogge.

Koninklijke mostly ignored the flanks in favour of their ability to attack in the middle. After 14 minutes, there was a bit of a mixup on the field as Jackies found themselves out of position and their organisation level dropped to weak. Koninklijke players heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead. After 15 minutes, Koninklijke's J. Röling made his way through the middle and nonchalantly placed the ball out of the keeper's reach, putting the visitors up 0 - 1. L. Devarwaere was struggling to make the ball dance with his usual trickery and panache, and the opposing players had little trouble shutting him down in these muddy conditions. A defender managed to keep the ball from crossing the goal-line after a curling shot coming in from the right from J. Vis after 38 minutes, and prevented Koninklijke from going up another goal. The game was characterised by rough play and many physical challenges on the wet field, but J. Röling showed great heart and had a good game. After 43 minutes, an incisive pass through the middle gave B. Paulusz a chance to increase the lead for Koninklijke, and he did not disappoint. The score was then 0 - 2. After this, you could see that the players of Koninklijke were more interested in killing time than scoring more goals. 44 minutes into the game, Jackies had difficulty finding their positions and their organisation dropped to poor. Koninklijke were determined to attack in the middle, even their wing attacks ended up centrally. After 44 minutes, Koninklijke's T. Impilä burst through the central defence and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 0 - 3. The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 3. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Koninklijke, with 92 percent of the ball.

A review of the gameplan helped Jackies get back to a passable organisation when the referee blew his whistle again. B. Paulusz left the field with a smile on his face as he was substituted 46 minutes into the game, as his team was in the lead. L. Marlier was the replacement. The Koninklijke players could smell victory in the air. G. Lepore wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for D. Lebeau after 50 minutes. After 50 minutes, a mistake by the home side's left defence allowed J. Vis to get through. He outclassed the home side's keeper, adding another goal for the visitors. 0 - 4. L. Marlier increased the visitors' lead by putting a volley away after a pass from the right. 0 - 5. Koninklijke's K. Meng refused to leave the field after injuring his achilles tendon after 62 minutes. J. Röling's experience almost gave Koninklijke a goal after 78 minutes but the keeper made a great save. G. Lachapelle got a fingertip on E. Gigante's shot from the left 81 minutes in, and managed to keep the visitors from going up another goal. N. Biskup was called on to replace Jackies's J. Francart after 83 minutes following a nasty collision. The visitors' J. Röling took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 85 minutes into the match. 0 - 6 for Koninklijke. The visitors added to their lead 87 minutes into the game, after a sensational penalty kick by Koninklijke's D. Dalcq slid just past the home keeper. 0 - 7. Possession in this half belonged to Koninklijke, who controlled the ball 80 percent of the time.

Jackies's top performer was clearly N. Biskup. J. Fabre on the other hand, had a terrible day. Koninklijke's best player was B. Rogge. On the other hand, D. Lebeau's play was disheartening. The match ends 0 - 7.
