A brilliantly sunny day had enticed a crowd of 48234 to
Sarsap Arena.
Dejan Pichler was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Leopold Langer and
Nelson Susilo.
Gandzasar decided to use a 3-4-3 set up.
They fielded: Aleixo - Andrei, Di Lello, Mazo Calvo - Zilocchi, Poljšak, Lameiro, Ting Ming - Tsatryan, Garabedyan, Pieruszka.
A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Armenia.
Lineup: Vahaknyan - Simonyan, Gomidasyan, Kevorkyan - Makayelyan, Kevorkyan, Soukiasyan, Ghazoyan, Tatevosyan - Vardanyan, Adamyan.
Gandzasar took the lead 17 minutes in, as
E. Zilocchi broke through on the left and put the 1 - 0 shot just beyond the reach of the outstretched keeper.
The sun seemed to put
H. Ghazoyan in a great mood, and he showed off his technical skills all match long.
Gandzasar managed to extend their lead to 2 - 0 when
E. Zilocchi cut in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper.
After 40 minutes, the away team failed to deal with a good exchange of passes on the right, and
I. Poljšak gave the Gandzasar supporters even more to cheer about when he increased the lead to 3 - 0.
The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
B. Pieruszka from Gandzasar a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 41 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient!
Gandzasar's
F. Lameiro was shown a yellow card after 42 minutes for slicing down an opponent.
A. Adamyan of Armenia had to be helped off the pitch as an injury meant he was unable to finish the game.
S. Ovagemyan came in to finish the match.
S. Ovagemyan became the new Armenia captain.
After 44 minutes, Gandzasar were awarded a free kick. Rather than shooting straight at goal, the taker went for an indirect variant which seemed to take his team mates a bit by surprise.
B. Pieruszka did attempt a finish, but from an awkward position, sending the ball into the away fans.
The teams went for the halftime break at 3 - 0.
Gandzasar claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 70 percent.
Things were going to get worse for the visitors.
B. Pieruszka squirmed through their central defence after 60 minutes, increasing the lead to 4 - 0.
The score became 5 - 0 at 70 minutes into the game, when Gandzasar were given a penalty which
E. Zilocchi blasted straight down the middle giving the keeper no chance!
That was his third goal of the match - a hat trick for
E. Zilocchi.
A magnificent combination in the middle resulted in Gandzasar's
B. Pieruszka increasing the lead to 6 - 0.
After this, you could see that the players of Gandzasar were more interested in killing time than scoring more goals.
Gandzasar put themselves up 7 - 0 when
A. Tsatryan broke through on the right, leaving the entire defence trailing in his wake.
With 79 minutes played, Gandzasar's
A. Tsatryan almost extended the lead, but his shot from the left glanced off the top of the bar to fall behind the net.
Gandzasar enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 69 percent of possession.
B. Pieruszka performed admirably for Gandzasar.
P. Aleixo was a disappointment, however.
Armenia's best player was
A. Kevorkyan.
However,
O. Vahaknyan made a disastrous appearance.
The match ends 7 - 0.
