Trinity 8 - 1 Eagles

24601 spectators had found their way to Trinity Arena, despite the heavy rain. Frederik Vammen was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Odo Deidre and Javier Eduardo Pelitz. The head coach flashed hand signals from the sideline and Trinity formed up in a 3-4-3 combination. Let's hope the opposing sideline wasn't filming that. They fielded: Balsby - Vilariño, Urbina Daóiz, Beagrie - Dobber, Gonçalves, Rogersson, Syla - Ertok, von Bieberstein, Aytek.

Our studio analysts were correct. Eagles has taken the field in a 2-5-3 alignment. Starters: Casaluci - Aspenbratt, Korkut - Kaptan, Marie-Sainte, Waterneversdorf, Reck, Soygüven - Sem-Jacobsen, Urba, Noyan.

Like a mighty wizard in the hellish lair of the balrog, Eagles is aiming to smother the Hephaestian flames of attack with inadequate skill. Trespass is forbidden! Alas, Balrog, you shall not pass! After 15 minutes cheers broke out as J. von Bieberstein found his way through the guests' central defensive line, rattling the 1 - 0 goal in off the woodwork for Trinity. Maybe A. Reck should join the aquatics team instead. He went down dramatically after 16 minutes, crying out with agony as he fell. The referee was not impressed, though, and showed him a yellow for diving. A speedy charge from the left side of the field increased Trinity's lead to 2 - 0 as S. Dobber finished it off clinically, firing the shot from a terrible angle. Cheers filled the stadium as Ö. Ertok broke through the visitors' central defense to put away the 3 - 0 goal for Trinity. Trinity's players now seemed to think the job was done and acted more defensively, just waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle. Z. Urba did not have a good day today, often losing his footing on the muddy field. After 38 minutes, Trinity sent a free kick in high over the penalty box. In what looked like a well-rehearsed move, the ball was headed backwards and reached O. Aytek, who had plenty of time to shoot and score - 4 - 0. The referee showed Eagles's V. Marie-Sainte the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. Trinity solidified their lead at the 41 minute mark, as Ö. Ertok snaked the ball through the central line of defense and finished for 5 - 0. The teams went for the halftime break at 5 - 0. The Count appeared on the jumbotron and announced that Trinity had 57...57 percent possession. AH AH AH!

The home side's Ö. Ertok came close to extending the lead after 47 minutes. His shot came in from the right but G. Casaluci managed to push it wide with his fingertips. Big paper red cards were being held up by the opposing supporters with 48 minutes on the clock after C. Rogersson's mistimed tackle from behind. The referee only showed the Trinity player a yellow card though. C. Rogersson had put in a good 50 minutes and left the field with a smile on his face due to his team's lead. L. Pi Dote was the replacement. 54 minutes had passed when Trinity put themselves up 6 - 0 after the visiting defenders lost the ball to J. Vilariño, who came up from the left and proceeded to easily go around the goalkeeper and knock the ball home. Content with how the game was proceeding, the Trinity coach let C. Sperber come on for I. Beagrie after 70 minutes. The Trinity players could smell victory in the air. S. Syla wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for S. Ridao after 74 minutes. Trinity's L. Pi Dote was delighted to score as he saw his shot go between the legs of the advancing keeper and into the net, following some good attacking movement on the right wing. 7 - 0 after 75 minutes. With 77 minutes played, Eagles's S. Korkut received a yellow card for challenging a play with his cleats first. Trinity's B. Gonçalves went down after a savage challenge, but could continue playing after some medical attention. As quick as a flash, Z. Urba of Eagles lost his man and passed the ball to the wide-open R. Sem-Jacobsen who easily hit it home to make it 7 - 1. Eagles's right side looked dangerous after 85 minutes, as T. Noyan broke through. T. Balsby continued to stifle them, however, as he made the save look easy. Trinity added another goal to their lead as J. von Bieberstein struck home for 8 - 1 after an attack from the left set him up unmarked in front of the keeper. Trinity's S. Ridao was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 87 minutes. C. Sperber of Trinity received a yellow card after 88 minutes for unsportsmanlike behavior. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Trinity would have 62 percent possession in this half was spot on!

Trinity's best player was Ö. Ertok. Good thing S. Ridao isn't a horse, because he'd surely be sent to the glue factory after that performance. R. Sem-Jacobsen performed admirably for Eagles. You can tell it was nickel beer night yesterday at the local bar because V. Marie-Sainte seemed to stumble all over the pitch. The match ends 8 - 1.
