06-05-2012 16.00
Clear skies welcomed the 44000 spectators who had made their way to
sille Arena.
Sébastien Blanchard was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Timo Käyhkö and
Claudiu Băcanu.
Everyone was excited about the upcoming
Århus derby and the crowd was divided evenly.
Illner had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation.
The following players took the field: Brossault - Guerreiro, Lamoen, Schmidt - Quenette, Slyngborg, Thuesen, Locke, Bogdanov - Fortún, Cappello.
A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Southampton.
They fielded: Ekstrøm - Vestergaard, Agger Pedersen, Thorhauge - Jørgensen, Faaborg, Raun Sørensen, Guinot, Pagliaro - Diesen, Pirot.
Southampton used their ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the pitch, rather than on the wings.
After 3 minutes,
P. Schmidt came in from the right, feinted, then sped past the off-balance defender to make the score 1 - 0, giving Illner the lead.
Illner increased the lead as
D. Locke struck to make the score 2 - 0 after an attack from the left left him unmarked in front of the keeper.
After 20 minutes, Illner raised their score by one when
P. Bogdanov's dangerous low cross was cleverly tucked in at the near post by
D. Cappello. 3 - 0.
Illner solidified their lead at the 21 minute mark, as
J. Fortún dribbled the ball through the opposing central defence and scored to make it 4 - 0.
Things were deteriorating for the away team as Illner scored another to make it 5 - 0 after a left side attack resulted in a goal for
T. Slyngborg after 27 minutes.
5 - 0 was the halftime score.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Illner, with 61 percent of the ball.
Illner's
J. Fortún increased the lead to 6 - 0, after he saw his shot go between the legs of the advancing goalkeeper following some good play down the right wing after 65 minutes.
By now, the players in Illner felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward.
The referee showed Illner's
D. Cappello the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge.
Southampton's
C. Thorhauge went down after a savage challenge, but could continue playing after some medical attention.
Possession in this half belonged to Illner, who controlled the ball 64 percent of the time.
Illner's best player was
D. Cappello.
However,
É. Brossault made a disastrous appearance.
L. Pirot performed admirably for Southampton.
P. Guinot was a disappointment, however.
The match ends 6 - 0.
