Hold 4 - 1 KayJay

The weather was pretty good, and a crowd of 41196 had shown up at Hej Arena for the match. After thorough analysis and consultation of astrological charts, Hold decided to go with a 2-5-3 formation. Lineup: Śniada - Achleitner, Larsen - Viborg, Gaster, Kløvedal, Berg Briese, Bjerre - Skinderholm, Rueger, De Maesschalck.

Gentlemen prefer blondes and KayJay prefers a 3-5-2. Let's see how this plays out for them. The following players had been selected: Pararas - Ituño, Bruus, Leahu - Castromán, Hollnsteiner, Paajanen, Kytömäki, Zaydman - Turgaç, Bolocan.

Hold mostly ignored the flanks in favor of their world class ability to attack in the middle. Using their excellent counter-attacking abilities was the strategy of choice for KayJay today. KayJay's K. Bruus could have put the guests one up 10 minutes in after chasing a through ball from the right, but A. Śniada was as quick as a snake, grabbing the ball from under his nose. C. De Maesschalck raced down the wing after 13 minutes and managed to get through the defense, but he lost his footing and sent the cross out for a throw-in. It was obvious that Hold had instructions to attack in the middle when they directed a break on the wing into the center of the park. L. Gaster's name was chanted throughout the stadium after his goal in minute 16 following a run up the middle gave Hold the 1 - 0 lead. The home side's J. Larsen came close to extending the lead after 23 minutes. His shot came in from the right but S. Pararas managed to push it wide with his fingertips. Hold players heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead. With the clock showing 24 minutes played, a great pass from the defensive line of KayJay resulted in a counter-attack that was smoothly brought under control by G. Bolocan in the center of the opposition's penalty area, but his finish went high. G. Bolocan of KayJay received a yellow card after 29 minutes for unsportsmanlike behavior. E. Ituño got left behind when Hold's C. De Maesschalck made a sudden rush forward in minute 33, finishing it off with a clinical strike. 2 - 0! A magnificent combination in the middle resulted in Hold's L. Berg Briese bringing the lead up to 3 - 0. Hold's players now seemed to think the job was done and acted more defensively, just waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle. 3 - 0 was the halftime score. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Hold would have 65 percent possession in this half was spot on!

P. Bjerre had a fantastic opportunity to put Hold up another goal 60 minutes into the match, but he fired just over the crossbar. 63 minutes in, an amazing pass from the left side resulted in a golden chance for the visitors. G. Bolocan was up to the task and scored, bringing them up to 3 - 1. Hold's O. Viborg saw his fine effort strike the top of the bar following some good work up the middle by his teammates 66 minutes in. Hold put themselves up 4 - 1 when L. Berg Briese broke through on the right, leaving the entire defensive delegation behind him. S. Pararas was caught napping as M. Achleitner lifted a ball over him following a free kick, but the ball hit the bar, rebounding into the keeper's arms. P. Bjerre let loose a swerving effort from the right that the visitors' keeper did well to tip wide. Hold set the tempo, maintaining 66 percent of possession.

Hold's top performer was clearly L. Skinderholm. Speaking of stinking up the place, P. Bjerre sure smelled like the bottom of Batman's shoe after a night of crimefighting in Gotham. KayJay's best player was G. Bolocan. I can't remember Á. Castromán ever having a worse night than he just had. The match ends 4 - 1.
