Cairo 5 - 0 Chorzów

Weather conditions were fairly good for soccer, and Pyramid Road saw a turnout of 52747. Stefano Rigamonti was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Ronald Surakka and Landuin Hofmann-Schäfer. After thorough analysis and consultation of astrological charts, Cairo decided to go with a 3-5-2 formation. The following players took the field: Jezuit - Moura, Bartolí, Vlassenbroeck - Sjölund, Glendenning, Jachimczuk, Calderón, Carrião - Tolu, Kaliszuk.

Gentlemen prefer blondes and Chorzów prefers a 3-4-3. Let's see how this plays out for them. The following players had been selected: Geoghegan - Merino, Mohell, Biscoito - Murray, Istrati, Di Stefano, Kilbane - Brolišs, Wardle, Correia.

Cairo broke through on the left after 19 minutes, with A. Tolu firing at an impossible angle to give the home side a 1 - 0 lead. The clock read 28 minutes and things were deteriorating for the away team as Cairo scored another to make it 2 - 0 after a left side attack resulted in a goal for D. Kaliszuk. Cairo managed to extend their lead to 3 - 0 when D. Kaliszuk slid in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper. After 38 minutes, Cairo's D. Glendenning successfully broke up a pass with his face. Instinctively, he got up again only to unintentionally use his now-throbbing schnozz to break up a second pass. As he was carted off for a concussion check, O. Tolvanen ran onto the field to take his place. Cairo solidified their lead at the 41 minute mark, as J. Carrião snaked the ball through the central line of defense and finished for 4 - 0. After this, you could see that Cairo's players were mostly interested in killing time and holding on to their lead. L. Biscoito of Chorzów received a yellow card after 43 minutes for unsportsmanlike behavior. 4 - 0 was the score after the first half. Cairo were doing a good job holding on to the ball, with 69 percent of possession.

The bench was restless, and with 46 minutes gone Chorzów's coach gave J. de Diego the opportunity to try to change the team's fortunes. B. Merino reluctantly left the field. With 50 minutes played, the Chorzów coach decided a substitution may help turn the game around. P. Rothacher came on and N. Wardle had to leave the fray. After 55 minutes, Chorzów substituted R. Kilbane for S. Barry, hoping for a quick impact on the field. G. Geoghegan was caught napping as L. Vlassenbroeck lifted a ball over him following a free kick, but the ball hit the bar, rebounding into the keeper's arms. Cairo put themselves up 5 - 0 when S. Sjölund broke through on the right, leaving the entire defensive delegation behind him. Cairo's À. Bartolí had to watch the rest of the game from the sidelines, after twisting his ankle with 69 minutes gone. J. Johansson was the replacement. After more pushing and shoving than a pack of helicopter moms trying to get the last appointment for their snowflakes to see the Easter Bunny, Cairo's J. Carrião finally got himself booked for a foul. A. Tolu had put in a good 77 minutes and left the field with a smile on his face due to his team's lead. A. Mínguez Ochoa was the replacement. The Count appeared on the jumbotron and announced that Cairo had 64...64 percent possession. AH AH AH!

D. Kaliszuk performed admirably for Cairo. I can't remember J. Johansson ever having a worse night than he just had. Chorzów's top performer was clearly P. Brolišs. You can tell it was nickel beer night yesterday at the local bar because S. Barry seemed to stumble all over the pitch. The match ends 5 - 0.
