Aengus 2 - 0 Mincers (374288693)

65829 spectators arrived at Backdoor terrace, where weather conditions were pretty good for football. Quique Desclergues was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Pío Sol and Igor Basarić. Aengus started off with a 4-4-2 lineup. The following players took the field: Black - Smyth, Feeney, Lawless, Denning - Lawler, Mulrooney, Costello, Evans - Empey, Quinn.

Mincers had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation. Starters: Granö - Herman, Fritz, Hellum - Lütolf, Fanni, Olteanu, Mazenkov, Marín Sánchez - Vasconcellos, Daroch.

Today, Mincers's strategy involved concentrating on the flanks for their attacks. The visitors' central defence should have had no trouble clearing the pass to I. Feeney, but the Aengus player managed to shrug them off and fired a low shot past the keeper to give his team the lead. 1 - 0! After 40 minutes, S. Empey put Aengus ahead 2 - 0 when he rose to head in a cross from the right wing. After this, you could see that the players of Aengus were more interested in killing time than scoring more goals. After 41 minutes Mincers's R. Herman limped slightly after a late challenge, but he was able to continue. After 42 minutes, following yet another great corner, A. Costello's flick on at the near post reached A. Lawler, who was just wide with his snapshot - the ball went out for a goal kick. 2 - 0 was the score after the first half. Aengus had most of the ball, with 55 percent of possession.

Mincers breathed new life into the game with an opportunity to reduce the score after 47 minutes, but the home side's defenders cleared the ball on the line, after a long shot coming in from the left rebounded off the crossbar. Mincers's H. Marín Sánchez left the field after 50 minutes because of a nasty blow to the shin. His replacement was P. Zemanek. C. Lütolf was the new captain of Mincers - handed the armband by the departing player. Aengus's opponents know to be wary of T. Evans's speed, but it made little difference as he flew past the defence 58 minutes into the game. Only the keeper could stop him - and he did with a perfectly timed dive! Aengus's R. Quinn got himself booked for a foul. Although the whole team were struggling to impress, Mincers's A. Daroch was singled out as being the problem as he was called off the pitch after 80 minutes. G. Laing was given a chance to change things around. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave P. Zemanek from Mincers a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 81 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Aengus, with 56 percent of the ball.

The most dominating Aengus player was without a doubt T. Denning. L. Smyth was a disappointment, however. Mincers's top performer was clearly J. Vasconcellos. P. Zemanek turned in a dismal performance, however. The match ends 2 - 0.
