06-05-2012 18.00
Clear skies welcomed the 12000 spectators who had made their way to
Catford Stadium.
Oliver Laurits was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Alejandro Víctor Tambussi and
Çağdaş Alan.
Catford decided to use a 4-4-2 set up.
They fielded: Publicover - Stevens, Waugh, Ferdinand, Chalklin - Millwood, Lamb, Hardman, Carn - Caesar, Naim.
Brynas had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation.
Starters: van Weerden - Thomas, Giso, Anderson - Luther, Dimaranan, Gielnik, Bell, Mangiacavalli - Barnes, Arellano.
After 2 minutes, Brynas's
D. Bell made his way through the middle and nonchalantly placed the ball out of the keeper's reach, putting the visitors up 0 - 1.
Brynas were given a free kick 14 minutes into the game, just after a swift counter attack broke down. Rather than shooting straight at goal, it was directed at the area just in front of the keeper. The attackers made several runs and made it hard for the defenders to protect their goal. After a short tussle with a defender,
T. Barnes could finally lay the ball to rest behind the keeper. 0 - 2, and proof it can pay off to come prepared.
D. Bell increased the visitors' lead by putting a volley away after a pass from the right. 0 - 3.
At this point, it was obvious that the players of Brynas lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented.
R. Gielnik came close to extending the visitors' lead when he found himself completely unmarked in front of the goal after a pass through the middle. He tried to lift the ball over
A. Publicover but overcooked it and hit the bar instead.
0 - 3 was the score after the first half.
Brynas had most of the ball, with 89 percent of possession.
The home keeper was stunned 57 minutes into the match when he misjudged the free kick by
R. Gielnik and dived in the wrong direction. The visitors increased the lead to 0 - 4.
The visitors'
H. Anderson took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 59 minutes into the match. 0 - 5 for Brynas.
After 76 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for
E. Giso who increased Brynas's lead to 0 - 6.
M. Arellano received a delicate pass through the home side's central defence after 83 minutes, and chipped it past the flailing keeper to score making it 0 - 7. The Brynas fans went wild, whilst the home fans started to think about leaving early.
The home crowd was not impressed when
A. Mangiacavalli came in from the right, shooting hard to score after 85 minutes. Brynas were now up 0 - 8.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Brynas, with 93 percent of the ball.
Most important Catford player was
D. Caesar.
A. Publicover turned in a dismal performance, however.
The most dominating Brynas player was without a doubt
R. Gielnik.
However,
L. Luther made a disastrous appearance.
The match ends 0 - 8.
