The crowd of 25548 turning up at St James Park today were greeted with some nasty showers of rain. Nuutti Hurskainen was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Władysław Lew and Jack B. Jeppsson. Gentlemen prefer blondes and Exeter prefers a 4-4-2. Let's see how this plays out for them. Lineup: Parry - Caerts, Barreiros, Meyer, Lopez - Lore, Heiermann, Omur, Regidor Reyes - Reichertz, Grenouilleau.

Our studio analysts were correct. barrowford has taken the field in a 4-4-2 alignment. The following players took the field: George - Wing, Chalk, Lakhani, Wong - Austin, Carter, Baker, Beardsley - Mansbridge, Trevelyan.

It seemed as though Exeter considered the game won before even taking the field, which resulted in a very uninspired start to the game. Today, Exeter's strategy involved concentrating on the flanks for their attacks, taking advantage of their brilliant ability. O. Heiermann had a difficult time moving the ball with his trademark elegance; the muddy surface was clearly affecting his technique. Exeter took the lead 14 minutes in, after G. Barreiros's awkward, but ultimately successful, shot from the right. 1 - 0. After 26 minutes, Exeter raised their score by one when L. Lore's dangerous low cross was cleverly tucked in at the near post by E. Reichertz. 2 - 0. Confident in their lead, Exeter's players relaxed and focused more on defending the lead than increasing it. 36 minutes into the game, Exeter's J. Grenouilleau tried to nail the coffin shut, but his shot from the left glanced off the top of the bar to fall behind the net. After 37 minutes, Exeter's E. Reichertz wobbled like a one-legged man on Bourbon Street at Mardi Gras, but he's determined to stay in the match. He's a real fighter! J. Regidor Reyes slipped and slid in the wet grass. His usual rapid runs were nowhere to be seen today. E. Reichertz should probably have put his team up another goal after 42 minutes, but some great goalkeeping by C. George kept the visitors in the game. A speedy charge from the left side of the field increased Exeter's lead to 3 - 0 as J. Grenouilleau finished it off clinically, firing the shot from a terrible angle. O. Heiermann increased Exeter's lead to 4 - 0 with a penalty spot cannonball. M. Meyer of Exeter received a yellow card after 44 minutes for unsportsmanlike behavior. After 44 minutes Exeter's S. Omur contracted a slight foot injury, but said he could still finish the game. 4 - 0 was the score after the first half. Exeter were doing a good job holding on to the ball, with 78 percent of possession.

J. Regidor Reyes gave Exeter supporters even more to cheer about when he increased the lead to 5 - 0 after 47 minutes, following a good exchange of passes on the right that the away team failed to deal with. 58 minutes had passed when Exeter put themselves up 6 - 0 after the visiting defenders lost the ball to F. Caerts, who came up from the left and proceeded to easily go around the goalkeeper and knock the ball home. 62 minutes into the game, Exeter were awarded a penalty that O. Heiermann converted into a bigger lead without so much as a how-do-you-do to the visiting keeper. It's 7 - 0 now! Exeter put themselves up 8 - 0 when J. Grenouilleau broke through on the right, leaving the entire defensive delegation behind him. Exeter's L. Lore was delighted to score as he saw his shot go between the legs of the advancing keeper and into the net, following some good attacking movement on the right wing. 9 - 0 after 75 minutes. The Count appeared on the jumbotron and announced that Exeter had 81...81 percent possession. AH AH AH!

O. Heiermann performed admirably for Exeter. Even six year old fans were wincing at the poor play by F. Caerts today. Most important barrowford player was A. Carter. Speaking of stinking up the place, C. George sure smelled like the bottom of Batman's shoe after a night of crimefighting in Gotham. The match ends 9 - 0.
