Dark skies made the crowd of 29887 at Tivoli a little nervous, but the rain held off. Frode Larsen was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Rob Edvinsson and Widmar De Coster. Sachertorte used their skill at pressing to cut off the attack angles of their opponents all over the field. The home side put themselves ahead 1 - 0 after 9 minutes courtesy of a breakthrough from S. Ardata, who scored with a stunning volley following a cross from the right wing. Sachertorte's ability to press all over the field frequently paid dividends. With the clock showing 40 minutes played, a great pass from the defensive line of Matres resulted in a counterattack that was smoothly brought under control by R. Groenewoud in the centre of the opposition's penalty area, but his finish went high. After 41 minutes Matres's A. Van Roosbroeck had to be carried off on a stretcher in agony. J. Mangenot came in to replace him. Halftime score was 1 - 0. Sachertorte had most of the ball, with 67 percent of possession.

Matres needed a fresh pair of legs on the field, and after 65 minutes K. Víðisson made way for G. Lam. The pressing tactics used by Sachertorte were successful as the ball remained close to the half way line at all times. The Matres coach was desperate to reverse his team's fortunes in the game, and ordered his team to change strategy. After 70 minutes, Matres used a short break in the game to take new instructions from their coach. After 74 minutes, Matres's G. Dumitrescu fell awkwardly, but was determined to stay in the match. That's the spirit! Although the whole team were struggling to impress, Matres's M. Kołda was singled out as being the problem as he was called off the pitch after 80 minutes. G. Spiga was given a chance to change things around. As the captain was no longer on the pitch, A. Oktürk took over the role of being the Matres captain. Sachertorte enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 60 percent of possession.

S. Ardata performed admirably for Sachertorte. R. 't Hart was a disappointment, however. Most important Matres player was G. van Olphen. However, J. Mangenot made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 1 - 0.
