previous 4/10 next 6/10  Marleys 0 - 2 Umpalumpas (375685178)

Clouds darkened the skies at fumemos as 10664 spectators turned up for the match. Peter Pihlin was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Gonzalo Linares and Carlos Casais. Fans of both teams had been eagerly awaiting this Metropolitana derby and were doing their best to outshout their opponents. Marleys started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. They fielded: Montpeyó - Tutor, Medina, Zaccheo - Gayoso, Cruz, Sánchez, Bakx, Moris - Quintal, Munster.

Umpalumpas had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation. The following players had been chosen: Santos - Arrae, Corbineau, Mitrović, Herrenberg - Orrantia, Malicet, Valdés, Traver - Winkler, Pineda.

Marleys displayed their ability to play creatively. Umpalumpas were relying on their ability to counter-attack. After 9 minutes, there was a bit of a mixup on the field as Umpalumpas found themselves out of position and their organisation level dropped to passable. Umpalumpas's D. Traver was shown a yellow card after 13 minutes for slicing down an opponent. S. Sánchez was the unlucky victim and couldn't continue the game, so Marleys's A. Tapia had to come off the bench. A free kick aimed at the keeper's far post almost gave Umpalumpas the lead 22 minutes in, but the ball just wasn't able to squirm its way through the defensive wall. Always a threat, M. Pineda tore past his marker and placed the ball right at the feet of the waiting J. Winkler who should have easily scored for Umpalumpas, but the ball went wide. 0 - 0 was the score after the first half. Umpalumpas had most of the ball, with 56 percent of possession.

A review of the gameplan helped Umpalumpas get back to a solid organisation when the referee blew his whistle again. After 59 minutes, Umpalumpas sent a free kick in high over the penalty box. In what looked like a well-rehearsed move, the ball was headed backwards and reached A. Arrae, who had plenty of space to place a well aimed shot - 0 - 1. J. Montpeyó got a fingertip on J. Winkler's shot from the left 63 minutes in, and managed to keep the visitors from going up another goal. With 67 minutes played, seemingly due to lack of experience, F. Corbineau needlessly tripped an opponent just outside the penalty area, but the free kick that followed didn't succeed. Umpalumpas increased their lead after 82 minutes when M. Pineda broke through on the right, upping the score to 0 - 2, much to the home crowd's dismay. 84 minutes into the game, Umpalumpas had difficulty finding their positions and their organisation dropped to passable. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Umpalumpas, with 55 percent of the ball.

Marleys's best player was E. Munster. However, I. Cruz made a disastrous appearance. Most important Umpalumpas player was M. Pineda. On the other hand, D. Orrantia's play was disheartening. The match ends 0 - 2.
