Doido 1 - 7 Almed

The local marching band welcomed a crowd of 34791 to Poleiro do Galo (VTNC RANDOM!!!). Rob van Ieperen was the appointed referee. Our studio analysts were correct. Doido has taken the field in a 3-5-2 alignment. The following players took the field: Čulkstēns - Kirilenko, Vanhaelen, Quevedo - Rico, Tino, Garanhão, Berruyer, Rousseau - Muzychenko, Murariu.

The head coach flashed hand signals from the sideline and Almed formed up in a 3-5-2 combination. Let's hope the opposing sideline wasn't filming that. They fielded: Paškotić - Serpente, Ráo, Jardim - Zamora, Gontijo, Lapinlampi, Verschaeve, Cebola - de Pádua, Freyre.

Proving that a foot massage and a pre-game pedicure can work wonders, M. Kirilenko sent a rocket into the box from the corner, finding I. Murariu, who headed it past the keeper with extreme prejudice. 26 minutes in and it's 1 - 0! The visiting team's J. Zamora was able to score the 1 - 1 equalizer with a header 27 minutes in, after some good work on the right. Almed took the lead after 34 minutes making the score 1 - 2. The keeper had no chance on J. Verschaeve's fine volley after a cross from the left. E. de Pádua increased the visitors' lead by volleying in a pass from the right. 1 - 3. Doido's V. Muzychenko was shown a yellow card after 36 minutes for slicing down an opponent. 37 minutes into the match, the visitors put themselves ahead 1 - 4 as J. Zamora finished off an attack from the left with a spectacular bicycle kick. Almed's P. Freyre was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 38 minutes. N. Duvalle was called on to replace Almed's J. Verschaeve after 42 minutes following a nasty collision. The home fans looked somber as they watched their team give up another goal, this one coming from their right as N. Gontijo put one through the keeper's legs. 1 - 5 after 44 minutes. Almed's players now seemed to think the job was done and acted more defensively, just waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle. 44 minutes into the game, N. Duvalle had to leave the field due to a knee injury. In came J. Capixaba. The teams went for the halftime break at 1 - 5. The Count appeared on the jumbotron and announced that Almed had 52...52 percent possession. AH AH AH!

After 57 minutes, Almed's N. Gontijo burst through the central defense and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 1 - 6. Almed's P. Cebola made it through the home team's defense on the right hand side 67 minutes into the match. After rounding the keeper, he only had to place the ball in the unguarded net when a defender slid in and cleared the ball off the line. The Almed coach was happy with the scoreline, but still wanted to change the lineup. After 70 minutes, E. Santos Mota came on for P. Freyre. After 80 minutes, Almed sent a free kick in high over the penalty box. In what looked like a well-rehearsed move, the ball was headed backwards and reached J. Zamora, who had plenty of time to shoot and score - 1 - 7. One, two, three goals! That completed a hattrick for J. Zamora. AH! AH! AH! Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Almed would have 53 percent possession in this half was spot on!

I. Murariu performed admirably for Doido. Good thing I. Berruyer isn't a horse, because he'd surely be sent to the glue factory after that performance. Almed's top performer was clearly E. Paškotić. I can't remember J. Capixaba ever having a worse night than he just had. The match ends 1 - 7.
