The weather was pretty good, and a crowd of 32296 had shown up at
Sulacap Arena for the match.
Magnus Jonasson was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Martin Winiger and
Fausto Cabeiro.
Fans of both teams had been eagerly awaiting this
Rio de Janeiro derby and were doing their best to outshout their opponents.
A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Sulacap.
The following players had been chosen: dos Reis - Tuzzio, Vogelmann, Ognjenović - Vuorimies, Pera, Garrido, Pereira, Filakouris - Balassa, Pätsi.
FLAusto decided to use a 4-4-2 set up.
Starters: Verkerken - Carnes, Scola, Abadie, Bandi - Reinamo, Alcantara, Kahriman, Joelsson - Enger, Christiansen.
Sulacap tried to focus their attacks down the middle.
Using their counter-attacking abilities was the strategy of choice for FLAusto.
The referee showed FLAusto's
H. Christiansen the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge.
Sulacap's
M. Balassa tried to break through in the middle repeatedly, but couldn't get past the visitors' defenders.
The goal to make it 0 - 1 was scored by
H. Christiansen after 39 minutes, following an opportunistic counterattack down the middle by FLAusto.
40 minutes into the match, Sulacap's
M. Balassa popped up from nowhere, cheekily stole the ball off an opposition player and scored. 1 - 1.
FLAusto almost scored after a counterattack 43 minutes into the match, but
J. Enger took a shot from the left that landed harmlessly in the side of the net.
The crowd groaned its disapproval when
L. Vuorimies missed a free kick that would have given Sulacap the lead after 44 minutes.
1 - 1 was the halftime score.
Possession in this half belonged to Sulacap, who controlled the ball 62 percent of the time.
FLAusto took the lead after 58 minutes making the score 1 - 2.
C. Abadie placed the ball out of reach for the home side's keeper after a fine move, coming in from the left.
After 74 minutes of play,
L. Vuorimies evened things up for Sulacap with an impressive goal coming up the middle. 2 - 2.
Sulacap had a good opportunity to attack on the wing, but remembered their instructions to go for middle attacks.
They were singing the praises of
D. Garrido 82 minutes into the match after his speculative chip from the middle of the penalty box found its way over the visitors' keeper to make the score 3 - 2 to Sulacap.
Sulacap enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 61 percent of possession.
Most important Sulacap player was
L. Pera.
D. Vogelmann turned in a dismal performance, however.
FLAusto's best player was
H. Christiansen.
However,
N. Joelsson made a disastrous appearance.
