02-04-2012 00.00
A scorching day at
Arena Monumental, where 45959 spectators were in place for today's match.
Eelse Broeders was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Giuseppe Genchi and
Erhard Hackl.
Futebol had chosen a strategic 4-5-1 formation.
Starters: Amieva - Serafini, Bonsignore, Commisso, Rubirola - Souza, Corbacho Rodríguez, Dantas, Bernardes, Dell'Acqua - Caterina.
A 3-4-3 alignment was the formation of choice for Fla-men-go.
The following players took the field: Kiernan - Vraštil, Wuffli, Díez de Quijano - Feloaga, Burli, Moreno, Hicks - Veys, Canêdo, Farias.
It was an obvious ambition of Futebol to use their ability at attacking on the flanks.
The wings were the focus of most of Fla-men-go's attacks today.
Boom! What a strike by Fla-men-go's
J. Wuffli! Firing in from 35 yards after 7 minutes, that is probably one of the best goals he's ever scored! 0 - 1.
Futebol's
V. Commisso put his head to a high ball coming in from the right after 12 minutes, but the ball went wide.
Fla-men-go had to manage with a reduced squad after 20 minutes, as
J. Wuffli got sent off for a needless foul away from the game's action.
Futebol had a good opportunity to attack in the middle, but remembered their instructions to focus on wing attacks instead.
With 25 minutes played, Futebol's
À. Rubirola found an opening in the visitors' left side defence, but his shot was handled easily by the keeper.
It was 0 - 1 at the break.
Futebol had most of the ball, with 57 percent of possession.
C. Peteanu was called on to replace Futebol's
M. Amieva after 51 minutes following a nasty collision.
61 minutes into the match, Futebol's
M. Serafini maneuvered his way around the opposition on the left flank, delighting the crowd with his twists and turns. The effort paid off as the ball found the back of the net, evening the score at 1 - 1.
After 65 minutes, Fla-men-go put themselves up 1 - 2, as
F. Veys finished off a strike from the left with a real cannonball of a shot.
Futebol's
F. Bonsignore had to watch the rest of the game from the sidelines, after twisting his ankle with 66 minutes having been played.
A. Beilin was the replacement.
G. Caterina made a superb strike after 76 minutes with a shot straight in front of the goal after a long ball through the middle, but one of the visitors' defenders got a foot in at the last second and warded it off for a corner.
Futebol claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 61 percent.
Futebol's best player was
G. Caterina.
C. Peteanu on the other hand, had a terrible day.
Fla-men-go's top performer was clearly
F. Veys.
L. Feloaga was a disappointment, however.
The match ends 1 - 2.
