(376296315)

30-04-2012 01.00
A scorching day at
Karpaty United Arena, where 41539 spectators were in place for today's match.
Danny Duelund was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Heith MacCabe and
Kwiryn Sadoch.
Karpaty tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination.
The following players took the field: Ormigo - Giorgiutti, Ramírez, Thürnau - Narr, Gazzea, Öztimur, Bunge, Terras - Sakwiński, Tomko.
Columbus decided to use a 3-5-2 set up.
Starters: Irving - Back, 景贻 (Jingyi), Mckenzie - Szklanko, Vander Vekens, Pinilla, Hamon, Vila - Angell, Tsokas.
H. Thürnau of Karpaty was booked for kicking the ball away after the whistle.
A. Öztimur could have put Karpaty into the lead after 15 minutes, but the free kick went just wide.
With 16 minutes played,
C. Terras of Karpaty fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving.
After 25 minutes, Columbus sent a free kick in high over the penalty box. In what looked like a well-rehearsed move, the ball was headed backwards and reached
K. Angell, who had plenty of space to place a well aimed shot - 0 - 1.
The sun seemed to put
S. Giorgiutti in a great mood, and he showed off his technical skills all match long.
The referee showed Columbus's
H. Hamon the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge.
34 minutes in, Columbus's
F. Pinilla received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first.
Halftime score was 0 - 1.
Possession of the ball saw an equal split between the teams during the forty-five minutes.
Almost all the way down to the corner flag, Columbus's
R. Szklanko somehow managed to get a perfect pass into the middle, impossible to miss for
Y. Tsokas, who struck for 0 - 2.
Karpaty's
R. Sakwiński found himself alone on the left side 74 minutes into the match and laid down a perfect shot - right into the arms of the keeper!
R. Mckenzie could have put his team up another goal 76 minutes into the game, after a rush down the left, but his closing shot hit the post.
Karpaty refused to be intimidated and, breaking through the middle,
M. Tomko managed to slip the ball home for 1 - 2.
Possession was split evenly between the teams.
Karpaty's top performer was clearly
R. Ormigo.
H. Thürnau on the other hand, had a terrible day.
The most dominating Columbus player was without a doubt
R. Back.
K. Angell turned in a dismal performance, however.
The match ends 1 - 2.
